'Oddlandia' is a comic strip I started uploading on Instagram a few months ago.
While work in other domains has demanded more of my time over the last few years, comics is a medium I love and hope to keep working in. #comics#oddlandia#maharajadoom#indiancomics
@Manjirip97 Not sure it's a question I can answer with any kind of authority. But if I had to guess, I'd say honesty about one's art & a diligence towards one's craft ensures the work becomes as 'true' as it can & this relates to audiences, however regional or 'different' the voice may be.
@Manjirip97 It's really quite difficult to define one particular version of reality as absolute. So as far as the creator is concerned, the reality concerning one's own art is what the creator portrays it to be through the work. A fantasy hence is as 'real' as a work based on 'true events'.
@Manjirip97 One uses static images while the other of course uses moving pictures. So each form evolves its own grammar and is hence perceived differently.
@Manjirip97 Yes, of course. A painting or a photograph is a still image and the narrative is more often interpretive in these forms. The artist invites the viewer into completing the story the visual hints at. Comics and films meanwhile, are sequential narratives.
@Manjirip97 In a way, all visual art pursuits are forms of storytelling... Whether it is a painting, a photograph or a film. What is unique to each is the grammar native to that particular form. Understanding the grammar and practice is the basis for pursuing any form.
@Manjirip97 I was always a fan of comics growing up. It was my first and greatest influence & it ignited my love for visual storytelling. When I joined art school, I was exposed to other forms. I also started actively watching films from a visual perspective & for inspiration.
