In 2004, Sania Mirza made history by winning a professional singles title at 17.

Twenty-two years later, another Indian teenager has rewritten that milestone.

Meet Maaya Rajeshwaran Revathi, who defeated Spain’s Celia Cervino Ruiz 6-4, 6-2 to win the ITF W35 Lagos singles title in Portugal on 11 October 2026.

At just 17 years and three months, Maaya became the youngest Indian woman to win a W35-level singles title, beating Sania’s record by seven months.

And she didn’t stop there.

After fighting her way through qualifying and stunning the tournament’s top seed, Maaya went on to win the doubles title too, alongside Ukraine’s Yelyzaveta Kotliar.

Two trophies. One breakthrough week. And a young Indian tennis player beginning to write her own chapter in the sport.
