Screen 6 (PCX), Prasads Multiplex, Hyderabad - India’s 2nd widest cinema screen
This is a 98.6 ft × 64 ft wide screen because it is installed at a venue which previously had a giant 1.43:1 IMAX screen! The actual screen if 101.6ft wide but since you need to curl some of the screen behind the frame to ensure it’s tight, the effective width is 98.6ft. Since it was earlier an IMAX, it also has that extremely steep IMAX seating and only 14 rows! Due to this, even from the last row, almost your entire field of view will be covered by the screen. If you decide to sit somewhere in the middle like me, it is like a VR experience. Such a grand feeling elevates every movie you watch.
It’s not just the scale, but also the technology. They use the same flagship dual 4K laser projector system which is used in all digital 1.43:1 IMAX venues in the world. The result is that despite being such a massive screen, the image stays bright and detailed. Not only does the projection match the recommended brightness of 14 fL, but they keep it a couple of fL even brighter to make the experience better.
The interiors are fully black; the walls, ceilings, as well as the carpet are black. The seats are deep red. This helps in keeping the picture’s black levels deep, and the audi stays dark, which improves the immersion.
There is a unique thing about this screen, its aspect ratio, which happens to be 1.54:1, a non-standard screen aspect ratio. What this causes is that the projector cannot cover the entire height of the screen even if there is content of that ratio available. It maxes out at 1.90:1. One benefit of this is that there is no cropping of images at the edges. Because otherwise, every projector that fills the screen entirely has to do some image cropping to ensure the image looks clean on edges. That problem doesn’t happen here, and you see a 100% full image. Since the screen is tilted slightly upwards, the image could look skewed if the projected image is not offsetting the screen tilt. So, yes, the picture is keystoned, which is why the image covers almost the entire screen width at the top area, but the bottom part of the projected image covers lesser width. This makes the image look like a trapezium instead of a rectangle. But an important thing to note is that this is done to prevent the image from looking distorted. It is better this way.
This screen uses Dolby 3D technology with CAT8461L-BAR3 Dolby3D glasses, which is the best 3D technology in the world… the same as what Dolby Cinema also uses. For 3D, this venue is the perfect way to get immersed.
The sound is powered by a CP950A Dolby Atmos Processor paired with QSC surround speakers and Krix stage speakers (behind screen). There are 22 surround speakers and 14 atmos height channel speakers. There are 16 dual box subwoofers (18"). They all work together to provide thunderous Dolby Atmos system with powerful, heart-pounding bass. If you sit at the right seat, the Atmos sound feels so natural that you’d feel everything really is happening around you. Due to the huge size of the audi, the surround sound travelling around you feels much more exciting than it does in standard auditoriums. Since the screen is so wide, even the stereo separation in stage speakers is very noticeable.
Generally, bigger auditoriums make it tough for the bass to stay tight and clean. But the acoustic treatment is done very well here, using an advanced technology called “glass wool”, which further makes the sound as good as it can get. Glass wool is an insulating material made from glass fiber arranged using a binder into a texture similar to wool.
@movie__maniac Biker is playing in flat there? I watched the premiere on 2nd. Scope content. A friend watched today and still seems to have watched the scope version in PXL.
Glad to be a part of the songs Dekhlenge Saala and Collar Ey Etthara from Ustaad Bhagat Singh with my boss and mentor Ravi Varman sir. Massive sets, crazy energy, and the magic he brings to every frame reminds you why he’s truly a master at what he does. ✨🫡
@Speaks_Div@Sharath0017 DOP for all three movies was Niketh Bommi, and he confirmed he framed for both the aspect ratios when I spoke to him after Kubera released. But in fact we get to see more of the image on a scope screen and not Epiq screens which makes them seem not so premium format afterall.

@Sidhaarthaaaa But why so tall in a weird aspect ratio is what I wanted to understand. Also the image isn't a perfect rectangle, it's a trapezium. That's how projections look when the projector has a keystone error. Though the quality is top notch at PCX, little things like these irk me.
@rahool360@movie__maniac Exactly. Last time the same cinematographer who shot Kubera confirmed they did it with his approval and knowledge for that movie. He shot it in Anamorphic while also framing for 2:1 is what I was told
