The ‘talk’ is much larger than one person or his song. You are only a breath in a larger discourse that has preoccupied Lucians for decades, where the real concerns are cultural survival, retention and authenticity. An existential talk, a bone marrow talk.
@nyannoire I feel like we’re being gaslit because a huge part of Dennery Segment acclaim has been the poetic lyricism of kwéyòl, so not sure how a Dennery Segment song can not have kwéyòl altogether
@TiPassie It is a very serious matter. Derek Walcott wrote kwéyòl in his poems, won the Nobel Prize with “salop” infused poems, taught his students in Boston, London, etc., kwéyòl. He wrote in a poem once that ‘to change your language, you must change your life’
Regional development is an imperfect process globally.
Ours suffers because of citizen ignorance, cults of personality, colonial legacies, imperialistic power plays, and often failures to capitalize for collective security in crucial moments.
You cannot understand what the United States is doing in the Caribbean and especially in Venezuela without knowing the history of the American empire’s obsession with resource extractive capitalism of Indigenous Brown & Black nations under the guise of benevolent interventionism.

@MonochromeEgo I currently work a four day work week and it’s not as convenient as it sounds. When I come back to work I have more work to do. It’s more stressful to be honest
@shaTIRED even then poor people should focus on investing what little resources they have into 1 or 2 kids, not trying to split one salary among 4 or 5 kids
if poor people keep making a lot of kids, there will always be more poor people
