Also please take immediate action to train some of your staff on handling travellers with utmost care and ask them to interrogate Gaby (Ground staff) if she had any specific concerns against the traveler or was she not aware of the rules of the airline.
She was extremely disrespectful and demanded that money to be paid immediately without giving any options to pay or else my parents cannot board the next flight as well.
Dear @WestJet and @AHoensbroech,
I am absolutely furious about how my senior citizen parents were treated at Vancouver Airport today.
They had just completed an exhausting journey from India and were arriving in Canada for the very first time. Instead of being welcomed, they were left scared, confused, humiliated, and worried they would be stranded in an unfamiliar country.
A WestJet employee, Gaby, demanded approximately $336-$350to check two cabin bags. We did not argue. We agreed to pay immediately. I personally called and offered to pay from Calgary. I was told that only a physical card or cash would be accepted and that remote payment was impossible.
Because my elderly parents did not have a Canadian card or enough cash on them, they were denied boarding on their scheduled flight.
As their daughter, sitting in Calgary waiting for them after a long international trip, I spent hours desperately calling WestJet trying to find a solution while my exhausted parents stood at the airport wondering if they would be left behind.
What makes this even more unacceptable is that WestJet later advised that the fees should be waived, and another employee eventually accepted an online payment anyway. So why were my parents forced to miss their flight? Why were they put through hours of anxiety and stress when a solution clearly existed?
No senior citizen should be treated this way. No first-time visitor to Canada should be made to feel helpless and unwanted after traveling halfway across the world.
My parents were not angry. They were simply scared, tired, and trying to get home. The lack of empathy shown was heartbreaking.
We are requesting: ✅ A formal investigation ✅ A written apology ✅ A refund of the $336 charge ✅ Compensation for the unnecessary distress and delay
WestJet, you didn't just inconvenience my parents. You turned their first experience in Canada into a nightmare.

@truptipatel@WestJet Exactly. If they do not allow carry ons then it should be Westjet’s responsibility to get the extra bags checked in without any charges in the first place. It was horrible experience that myself and my parents went through.
