Comencé anoche a leer el último libro de Acemoglu. Aunque afín a la democracia liberal, reconoce que su crisis obedece —hasta donde he leído— a varias promesas incumplidas: prosperidad compartida, generación de servicios y, además de ellos, protección y voz para la gente.

Asume —no podía ser de otra manera— que la salud democrática no es ajena a sus rendimientos sociales. La democracia no encuentra sus condiciones de permanencia y solvencia únicamente en lo electoral y procedimental.

Yes, FDR was the first President who, thanks to the New Deal and his policies on behalf of the poorest Americans, broke the hold of the Republican Party (the Party of Lincoln) on African-Americans. That shift was furthered and completed during LBJ's Presidency.

Don’t talk to liberals. Talk to people who visit or live in Europe. In France (a country with a lot of problems) you go to the doctor (sometimes the same day) and your bills are negligible and they cover a lot, and yes, universal health care is an amazing system.

Silly stuff. Even Israel’s leaders no longer pretend the country is a “liberal democracy”. In fact many of them have hated and fought liberal democracy their whole lives. So much of the western legacy media is completely delusional about the history and reality of that country.
