Hey everyone, I'm Tim.
I went from being overweight and out of shape for YEARS to becoming a grip strength expert with a passion for health and fitness.
Most of what I post here is world class feats of grip strength, but here's my story:
I struggled with my weight since elementary school. I tried dieting several times in the past and failed. There was a point in 2012 that I'd finally gotten into decent shape but then…
I sank into a deep depression after an intestinal surgery and re-injuring my ankle.
I was ready to give up on everything health and fitness. I developed unhealthy habits. I started smoking cigarette and drowning myself in binge drinking.
My diet consisted of Taco Bell, White Castle, and ramen. After a few years of living like this, I had gained nearly 100lbs.
In 2019, I was a few years into grip training but was still caught up in the old lifestyle. I didn’t apply myself.
At this point, my unhealthy habits started catching up to me. Climbing a flight of stairs felt like running a marathon.
My joints always ached, the hangovers had become MUCH worse, and I was lethargic and depressed.
I'd recently become an uncle, and I remember my brother pulling me aside saying how he's concerned about my well-being and wanted me to be around for when my niece grew up.
For all those reasons on top of me turning 26 and not getting any younger, I'd finally hit my breaking point and decided to make huge changes in September of 2019.
Since I had tried dieting in the past, I had an idea of what I had to do in terms of caloric deficit and also started walking around my neighborhood regularly.
I started doing traditional strength training a bit more often, but still didn't have a routine. I also still hadn't fully let go of my lifestyle, and was still drinking most weekends.
Despite that, I was able to lose some weight and gain some strength. And, once the lockdowns started in March of 2020, I was fully committed to getting healthy and totally stopped drinking and smoking cigarettes.
By mid summer, I'd lost a total of nearly 80lb and was the fittest I'd ever been. I'd also figured out some good hacks to help me stick to my diet and not burn out.
Hacks that I want to share with you.
Anyway, thank you so much to everyone who took the time to read this!
While a lot of my posts are epic feats of grip strength, as someone who thought they'd never be able to lose all that weight and live a healthy lifestyle, I have come to Twitter to also encourage others that IT IS possible.
No matter how low a point you think you're at, it's never too late to make changes. It's all about replacing bad habits with better ones overtime.
People are often overwhelmed by starting a weight loss journey because it just feels so out of reach. I'm here to tell you that we're all capable of so much more than we think with time and consistency.
The journey isn't meant to happen overnight. It's a process and also an important period of self-development.
And you don't need to jump into some extreme routine to succeed. It's much better to have a more sustainable approach. It's so easy for us to get discouraged by comparing our starting point to where we want to be.
The goal should be improvement. Be a little bit better each day, and the baby steps will add up! Give me a follow for more content related to this and grip strength!
If you any questions about my story or my training, feel free to ask me. I'll be answering all the questions I can so you can succeed to the best of your ability!
If you have interest in anything grip strength-related, I HIGHLY recommend checking out https://t.co/JDJEcM5Raj It's a forum with over 20 years of archived information on everything grip!
It was a huge help for me when I was starting out. You can just be a "lurker" like i was for the 1st year or so before I even decided to start training grip, but I would definitely recommend eventually making an account.
Between vacation and a wedding, I've been away for about a month. But now all that has passed and I'm finally back home and back to my regular routine!
So, moving forward, I'd like to know what kinds of things you all would like to see. I'm a total nerd when it comes to strength/fitness and ESPECIALLY when it comes to grip strength. But I don't know what people are interested in seeing or learning about.
As fun as feats are, I'm aware that they get redundant, and some people don't really know what they're seeing. But I will be able to do more requests now that I'm back.
Do you enjoy the more informative nitty gritty grip videos? If so, what topics would you like me to cover?
Would you want me to talk about things that I eat or my daily routine?
How I dealt with certain struggles while losing weight or struggles I'm still having today?
I want this to be fun, informative, helpful, and inspiring, but I'm very new to all of it and would love some suggestions for how I can improve 😁
Unfortunately, I don't know much about finger clubbing. But i think doing some basic finger exercises and getting an overall stronger grip would be helpful. If finger curls don't aggravate it, that would be a good one. Hand grippers from a wider set could be helpful too. And if they bother the pinky, you can just use the 1st 3 fingers and have the pinky off the handle so there's no aggravation. Other than that, any type of general pinch or thick bar lifts just to build overall grip. Im sorry that i dont have better info on it.
@SHILL3R_eth That dude is a beast! A few years got a bit over 2 minutes, but it's not a good exercise for me. My arms dont straighten so all that time under tension puts a lot of stress on my bicep tendons, which have already been damaged over the years
@onlygarch That's a fun idea! I actually went to a practice with some AW buddies a couple years ago, but i went more for the adventure/camaraderie. I got to meet Tim Bresnan! But i am wary of getting too deep into arm wrestling because I have some pretty bad luck with injuries
@milenius I am currently working on a little piece, hopefully it'll be ready pretty soon. It's so much harder for me to write music than it is to lift or tear things 😂
@4cowsmoo That's what i find cool about the grip stuff! You dont have to be massive to still do some amazing things! There are some lightweight climbers outlifting super heavyweight powerlifters at grip comps
A lot of people have been asking me if i tear phone books. I've torn a few in the past, but they're difficult to find these days. Here's a 1400 pager from my heavier days. #grip#gripstrength
This may look like any other blob to most, but I've been chasing a decent lift with this "Napalm Blob" (~66lb half 135 york legacy blob) for about 8 months. I wanted a more dominant lift, but this will do for now. I think only 5 or so people in the world have lifted it so far.
I will have to search my attic for unimportant hard cover books to try and tear. But for now, here's me attempting to tear a Charmin Ultra Jumbo Roll. This was a 1st for me, and I had no idea how it was going to go 😂
