Today I'm announcing something I've been working on for the last 2 years: Alif.

When I started building my first company 5 years ago, I had no help.

There was no Founders, Inc. yet.

Buildspace didn’t exist either.

I wouldn’t have gotten accepted into any accelerator if I tried.

I didn’t have the people in my corner that I do today.

In fact, people told me that I was throwing my life away almost every step of the way.

I'm building Alif into the program I wish I had when I was starting out.

It's a 7 week fast-track for Muslim builders who want to start a company.

With what we've seen from AI in the last two years, there's a window of opportunity that's never existed at this magnitude in history.

More people will be able to create generational impact during this period than ever before.

There’s never been a better time to build.

This first batch won’t be perfect — this is an experiment more than anything.

But I truly believe that something like this has to exist.

I'll be rolling out more information over the next few weeks.

This week my colleagues & I traveled to DC for #DODay2024

This was one of my favorite pictures from over the weekend at ACC with my wife, Saloni.

I remember when I first started talking to her during my second-year of medical school, I told her I wanted to become a cardiologist, mostly because I loved the cardiovascular system, and admittedly partly because I thought it sounded like the coolest field in medicine and wanted to impress her as well.

At that time, when I was studying for Step 1, it seemed nothing more than a far-fetched dream. As time progressed (and feelings of imposter syndrome appeared), I started to develop self-doubts about my ability to make this dream into a reality. Most of these doubts were conscious, but I feel that they creeped into my subconscious beliefs as well.

In the early stages of residency, I started thinking about other career choices, including Hospitalist and Endocrinology. My wife and I had one important discussion during PGY2 in which she gave me an inspiring talk and took me back to my dreams when I had met her 4 years before. This catalyzed an undetermined focus to match into Cardiology over the following year. This talk started me on a new career trajectory. In retrospect, I would not have been here at ACC as a second-year cardiology fellow without her support, belief, and guidance.

In the medical journey, remember you are never alone, although sometimes it may feel like it. Utilize the support of parents, siblings, physician (and non-physician mentors), spouses, friends, to help to see your potential, especially at times when you may not see it! Sometimes it is important to have reminders of your potential that others see in you! One conversation or moment can help re-ignite the passion that can become dimmed by the beast of a field that is Medicine.
