There was a major M7 earthquake in Kumamoto, Japan today.
During the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake, QT often mixed outdated information and created noise, while RT played a critical role as an information aggregation layer. People relied on the timelines of official accounts and trusted figures (government, local politicians, etc.) and primarily consumed information through the RTs shown there.
Currently, RTs are no longer surfaced on the main timeline. This significantly reduces X’s effectiveness as a real-time information hub during disasters, especially for users who follow official accounts.
I understand this may conflict with the current product direction, but temporarily restoring RT visibility on the timeline (at least during major emergencies) would meaningfully improve information distribution in these situations.
