Hi! We’re TEN, a Chicago-based org that forms tenant unions in Project-Based Section 8 (PBS8) housing. We empower PBS8 residents to secure dignified and safe living conditions through collective action in the style of labor union organizing.

@SeniorCaucus Now more than ever, we appreciate your patience, your support, and your belief in TEN as an organization. It has meant the world to us, and we are so excited to embark on this new chapter. 🌇🌳💙
We have some big news to share: TEN is merging with @SeniorCaucus .
We’re excited to officially become part of JASC’s historic tradition of grassroots organizing, embodying the legacy of social worker Jane Addams.
We'll now post TEN updates from the @SeniorCaucus account, and are excited to share our work with JASC's broader network. The TEN page will remain up as an archive for the time being, but we won't add more posts here. Follow us @SeniorCaucus if you want to stay updated.
Now more than ever, we NEED accountability measures tenants can wield independently to make PBS8 buildings livable and keep tenants safe, in their buildings and nationwide. #NoContractNoSale
As a small organization that helps tenants organize to improve their living conditions in federally subsidized housing, we’re seeing in real time that our work is more necessary now than ever before. Read more below on why we need PBS8 tenant unions in 2025:
This is why we need a CONTRACT with a new building buyer. Contracts give tenants the power to prevent landlord abuse and neglect, and remain organized in the long run to resist attacks on their rights, federal programs, and staff.
We’re celebrating this win, but keeping the pedal to the metal until we get our contract with the new building owner, and keeping the pressure on @FreddieMac. It’s #RentStrikeSpring! #NoContractNoSale
However, management did not fix the elevator until the Tenants Association spoke out and enacted our RENT STRIKE and TEN’s lawyers filed lawsuits related to the violation. This proves that tenants backed by union-style power can demand change & that our tactics are WORKING.
