Phishing and social engineering are getting more sophisticated at an exponential rate due to AI.
Proton just let a phishing email go through to my inbox that I think will compromise tens of thousands of folks.
How it seems to work: someone added my email to a real Google Group. They then sent out a message to all members of the group with subject line "Your Google data has been exported."
Obviously this will cause many people to panic. The email went through to my inbox because it came from a legit google group from a legit Google URL.
All links in the email look totally normal – unless you look at the link for "Cancel request" button. But amazingly this one also seems to come from a genuine Google URL – a URL shortener from Google! goo[dot]gl/XXXXX (not putting the real URL here).
Then it takes you to (1) a Recaptcha screen and then (2) a genuine looking Google account login screen. It's hosted on a Google site (sites[dot]google[dot]com) so everything looks legit.
Because all links are technically hosted by Google, this is very very bad.
@shenetworks I used to think we worked with smart, sane people, but recent evidence suggests that as an industry we'll fall for anything which seems half-plausible and sounds scifi-levels of cool...
There's a new kind of coding I call "hype coding" where you fully give into the hype, and what's coming right around the corner, that you lose sight of whats' possible today. Everything is changing so fast that nobody has time to learn any tool, but we should aim to use as many as possible. Any limitation in the technology can be chalked up to a 'skill issue' or that it'll be solved in the next AI release next week. Thinking is dead. Turn off your brain and let the computer think for you. Scroll on tiktok while the armies of agents code for you. If it isn't right, tell it to try again. Don't read. Feed outputs back in until it works. If you can't get it to work, wait for the next model or tool release. Maybe you didn't use enough MCP servers? Don't forget to add to the hype cycle by aggrandizing all your successes. Don't read this whole tweet, because it's too long. Get an AI to summarize it for you. Then call it "cope". Most importantly, immediately mischaracterize "hype coding" to mean something different than this definition. Oh the irony! The people who don't care about details don't read the details about not reading the details
A lawsuit filed in February accuses Tesla of remotely altering odometer values on failure-prone cars, in a bid to push these lemons beyond the 50,000 mile warranty limit:

Hey @VLine@vline_gippsland@metrotrains - is there something going on the Pakenham/Gippsland line? We've been stuck here at Caulfield for 15 minutes, and neither website indicates any issues. Driver has no info either. Is there congestion from @metrotunnelvic or something else?

Ok then, but we've got a different proposal: sell that stock within 12 months or it will be compulsorily acquired by the government for use as public housing. We can easily imagine how fast they'd rush to offload it then!
"It is a concern from the developers’ perspective because that stock [around 8,000 apartments in metro Melbourne] needs to be removed from the market so it’s not competing with new stock on price point."
@mivoicetoo@jaysongillham I suspect that whether or not he was entitled to say what he did is a matter for the courts to decide in the still-proceeding MSO case.
@mouvement33@SundaeDivine Ah, they tried to cut out the words "and if you break a crime", from "I also want everybody to know, if you come to our country illegally, and if you break a crime, this is one of the consequences you will face." (comparing the audio with https://t.co/sbzMoekPT4 )
@mouvement33@SundaeDivine I suspect it's just a badly edited video, like they are bad at everything else. https://t.co/1z0JxvMTcL has a different angle, which makes it look like she's really there.
Kristi Noem is touring the El Salvador Super Prison. Kristi says that if you are an illegal alien in the USA and commit crimes against American citizens this is one tool we can use to stop that from happening. #CECOT
