In another administrative reform, aimed at ensuring swift progress and effective governance at the grassroots level, have approved creation of new engineering division in five newly created districts in Ladakh.
These include - 7 PWD divisions including 5 divisions under PM Gram Sadak Yojana and 4 division in Public Health Engineering (PHE)/Irrigation & Flood Control (I&FC) departments.
With this administrative restructuring, every district will now have a full contingent of engineering staff and there will be a decentralisation of engineering works at the district level.
Aligning these divisions with the new district boundaries will further remove administrative and jurisdiction constraints, ensure seamless project planning, and fast-track the implementation of developmental schemes, at the grassroots level.
The move reaffirms the UT Administration’s commitment to enhancing public service delivery and bringing the administration right to the doorsteps of the people of Ladakh.

#WATCH | Leh, Ladakh | On violent protests, Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council CEO Tashi Gyalson says, "... Innocent people who had come for a peaceful protest, somehow the crowd got mobilised, and suddenly the violence started... The ongoing hunger strike was quite peaceful initially and it was for a larger demand. The people of Ladakh were a little concerned but there wasn't anything to worry about as the government was holding talks from time to time and finding a solution to the issue and had also given assurances that Ladakh would receive constitutional safeguards. Despite this, some narratives began circulating that the government isn't serious about talks and will not take action on constitutional safeguards... Some provocative people started making statements... But we never anticipated it. But on the 24th, such an incident occurred, which is unfortunate, and I strongly condemn it... We have requested the LG that there should be a thorough investigation into this. There should be transparency and accountability... When violence broke out, there was a lot of strictness from the police, and the result was this: four young people lost their lives, and many others were injured... There should be accountability for all the violence... There should be accountability for the excessive use of force to control the violence..." (26.09)
