“What do you wish for?”
He raised the sword.
“For this to end.”
And so it did.
She thought she could bear it.
The flame doesn’t burn flesh, it burns memory, mercy, name.
She crawled across sacred roots and salted soil, dragging a sword that no longer recognized her. Behind her, the fire grew.
It was waiting for her to ask again.
The fire had a face.
But the woods had teeth.
As the flame stirred something ancient, the ground cracked, birthing a beast made of hate and hunger.
It remembers the last time the lamp was lit. And it has not forgiven.
He thought the flame would obey.
But tonight, it answered.
It took form, taller than any man, older than any myth.
Eyes like burned out stars. It did not speak. It watched.
The traveler gripped his lantern tighter. This was no summoning. It was a reckoning.
They say the world was quiet once, until he lit the first flame.
No name. No history. Just a whisper in the dark holding a cursed lamp. The fire listens only to him. And in return, it feeds on what little soul he has left.
