@TitusSauerwein The turnout figure is problematic- they reduced the denominator of 7 million voters to 6 million to take into account the fact that a fifth of polling stations didn't open.
@estellelevin @a_jorns Let me send a quick email to explain based on interaction with LSM in CDI, Mali, Burkina. Am experimenting with Twitter and realize how being short and sweet not my strong suit!
@a_jorns @estellelevin Nice piece though such nuance wouldn't fly in many francophone legal contexts where all is forbidden unless allowed (despite joke that in practice all is allowed even if forbidden). LSM engagement with ASM often needs govt approval or blessing, so multi stakeholder outreach key
@svbockstael@BenediktDiamond CAR data from USAID is available but SL data from study funded by World Bank I worked on not yet approved by government. Not sure they will release but it's a great dataset (1600 miners) so hope they will. There is also IPIS dataset for gold and diamonds in CAR we funded
@svbockstael@BenediktDiamond Based on 2019 research in CAR and Sierra Leone, it's a bit higher. Sponsored diggers get between $1 and $1.50 for food money. Average share in winnings is between $1.20 and $2, up to $3.50 if not sponsored. Day laborers get between $3 and $3.50. Gold miners earn more, even women.
