@talmonsmith The ACA was about being able to get health insurance. At. all. Pre-ACA you were uninsurable for anything you’d seen a doctor for — from tendonitis to cancer. No maternity benefits. Obtaining health insurance for my healthy family of five was a nightmare. It saved lives.
Help! @MitsubishiHVAC We bought top-of-the line mini splits in Aug. that are lemons. They didn't work from day one. 1st HVAC company gave up after trying to work with you for months. 2nd company also hit a brick wall. Customer service was rude and told us they couldn't help.
“Changing clocks to shift light from the morning to the evening is bad for health and safety… Longer evening light keeps people up later, and morning darkness makes it harder to get going for work or school…
“Morning light cues production of cortisol, a hormone that helps us feel awake and alert. Cortisol dwindles through the evening, darkness triggers the sleep-promoting hormone melatonin…
“People have associated Standard Time with it being cold, winter, dark. Meanwhile spring forward coincides with the return of warmer, longer days. But DST doesn’t buy more light. Winter days are short and summer days are long regardless of how you mark time…
“The safer option is to go for permanent Standard Time… Permanent Standard Time, or natural time, better aligns people’s schedules with the sun year-round…” #DitchDST
Lab? Wet market? We may never know where Covid-19 came from. What's undeniable is that the discussion around Covid origins has become hopelessly toxic. Can @undarkmag's Entanglements podcast get scientists on opposing sides to talk it out? Listen in....

@j_g_allen Yes. Do you have an alternate suggestion? This has become a toxic propaganda space. It’s not only much less useful to me as a science journalist, it’s also bad for my mental health.
A note from TON executive director and editor-in-chief:
Dear friends,
I was raised with the belief that each of us has a responsibility to make the world a bit better during the time we’re here.

How the Election Could Affect Toxic Chemical Regulation
Federal regulations have been imposed on #PFAS. How will a Trump or Harris presidency handle these “forever chemicals”?
Another excellent piece by @TeresaRCarr for @undarkmag

🧵(1/5) The future of PFAS, also known as “forever chemicals,” hangs in the balance as the 2024 presidential election nears.
These forever chemicals are widespread in products and accumulate in the environment, causing harmful health effects like cancer and liver damage.
@philipcball Limbo is a terrible place to be. Was there a contract when the hypothetical newspaper commissioned the story? If so, it should spell out the kill fee.

"Based on those lab findings, scientists have a “pretty good” sense that #oseltamivir would have some effectiveness against the infections caused by the current #H5N1 strains..."
"Exactly how effective is an open question."

As H5N1 cases emerge, the U.S. faces a pandemic predicament: Rely on Tamiflu, a drug with mixed results, or scramble for new treatments in a market with little incentive to produce them. More from @TeresaRCarr:

@AirbnbHelp@Airbnb Help! My family was involved in an incident at a property that required several weeks of medical treatment. We reported it to Airbnb immediately. Now customer service refuses to help because it took more than 60 days for all the medical bills to come in.
