Gianni Infantino’s future leadership of FIFA was questioned by federations during meetings in which UEFA and Concacaf rejected his plans to sell stakes in the World Cup.

Sources briefed on the discussions at the UEFA meeting, speaking on the condition of anonymity to protect relationships, said that while Infantino’s position was not formally on the agenda, faith in him was questioned and his future as the leader of the global game was referenced in conversations.

The Athletic reported following the Concacaf meeting, one source with knowledge of discussions said the feeling and discussion expressed among the vast majority of Concacaf members was that they are losing confidence, or have lost confidence altogether in Infantino as FIFA President.

A second person considered that to be a slightly stronger description of the meeting than they took away from it, but acknowledged widespread concerns over the current FIFA approach to leadership and transparency.
