Also noteable that there was one sentence in Lloyd’s speech on Uni governance. Given that wage theft, job insecurity, corporatization, excessive exec pay & thousands of job losses are linked to governance failures, his ‘can & must do better’ is an understatement.
Just watched David Llloyd, Uni Aus chair deliver pressclub speech. Am still digesting his ‘fulsome criticism’ of JRG policy, when in 2020, VCs in SA unis all rolled over to give support once they extracted a bit of extra (short term) $ from Morrison Govt. Selective memory? 🤔😠
@DeakinNTEU The only ‘policy paper’ I’m aware of was one commissioned by the Morrison govt to provide (flawed) justification for the jobsready grad changes. The paper itself is based on such flimsy methodology that it actually says, these are the findings but don’t base public policy on it!
Newcastle VC Zelinsky is on the executive board of AHEIA, the body representing uni bosses. Are we surprised that he is playing from the corporate IR playbook, giving himself massive $$$ increases while staff fight for a fair pay deal & working conditions? Shameful.
University of Newcastle Vice-Chancellor Alex Zelinsky took a $70,000 pay rise last year, taking his salary to near $1 million.
At the same time the university recorded a $38 million deficit, had to pay $6.2 million back in wage theft and have been trying to ram through a real wage cut for staff.
@7NewsMelbourne@Rebecca7Maddern@AlisonBarnes25@NTEUnion This impacts on anyone with a debt - esp now banks are taking HELP debts into consideration for home and personal loans, making it yet another hurdle to home ownership for thousands (esp women and lower paid workers).
Uni Newcastle has $500m in liquid assets and had a small operating surplus last financial year. Huge pay increase also for a VC who is now earning just under $1m - higher than the PM. Yet same vc is crying poor to staff taking industrial
Action today over pay and wages. Shame.
The Universities Accord needs to focus on long-term sustainability. Our new report shines a light on a looming student debt crisis, including degree repayment times up to 44 years.

@Raecooper1 The CEO of UA when asked by then Sen Patrick if he should vote for JRG Bill in 2020 to ensure ‘certainty’, replied with “…that would be the case, yes”. See Pg 82 senate Ed & Emply cttee Hansard Tues 15 Sept 2020.
@Raecooper1 I know that the NTEU vigorously opposed the JRG policy from its inception, campaigning and lobbying hard for it to be rejected. It was disappointing to see UA and most VCs supporting such a destructive policy - the worst I’ve seen in all my time in the higher Ed sector.
@MoistenedTart So, is it me or is Rufus basically admitting fears that sex toys regularly outperform him and those feelings of inadequacy he’s now trying to mask are really about performance anxiety and his own insecurities?? Possibly better to share with his therapist, just sayin…!
@ToshGreenslade Its entirely fine to do other stuff for a while - especially if it’s something you enjoy. But don’t be surprised if you get pulled back sometime in the future, things seem to work out like that. It will be there for you when the time is right.
Griffith uni mgt is aggressively pursuing non union agreement - this is just the tip of the iceberg, mgt are testing waters with the idea of using this tactic every round to undermine job security & conditions for a few $$ extra. Don’t fall for it. @nteunion@NTEUQld
@Griffith_Uni staff can see what can be achieved by negotiation and compromise with the #NTEU. Hopefuly this will encourage them to #VoteNo in the Griffith agreement ballots. @NTEUnion@NTEUQld
Don't know if people will be able to see the detail in the pic (feel free to DM me for a full-res version) but this is what we were claiming at @Griffith_Uni and what management have in their offer that people are voting on today and Monday #VoteNo. @NTEUnion#betterunis
The fact that unis & their employer reps are lobbying MPs to oppose IR reform on secure jobs reveals that job insecurity & underpayment is their business model, despite their denials over years. See “New uni workplace rules: what managts don’t want”https://t.co/MrfDOAux7j
