sometimes writers are so desperate for the audience to like a character that it clearly shows in their writing and it has the opposite effect and they end up making you hate them instead😭
Characters should absolutely be allowed to be problematic or do and say bad things while being overall good people because that is the reality of how humans are. Expecting uncomplication in characters means that you expect bad, juvenile writing that spells out morality for you.
I find it more interesting when literature refuses to make its characters morally convenient. Give me contradiction, cowardice, hypocrisy, desire. The whole unpleasant machinery of being human
