But we also recognize the challenges, economic pressures, deep-rooted beliefs, and social sanctions that make change difficult. That’s why we’re committed to pairing dialogue with economic resilience and community-level support.

Day 2 of the Kenya National Workshop on Strengthening Non-State Actor Engagement in Agrifood Systems Transformation.

We kicked off with a deep dive into the CAADP journey, tracing its evolution from Maputo (2003) → Malabo (2014) → Kampala (2025).

A clear message: transformation requires stronger, more inclusive systems.

Non-State Actors are central to this process: driving accountability, innovation, and ensuring policies reflect the realities of farmers and communities.

This workshop convenes partners to strengthen the coordination, capacity, legitimacy, and policy influence of Non-State Actors in national agricultural and food systems processes.

By fostering stronger collaboration among partners, the initiative aims to ensure that Non-State Actor platforms can meaningfully contribute to agricultural policy dialogue, monitoring, and accountability.

The @EABL_PLC Foundation has signed a landmark partnership with @CAREGlobal, committing 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗞𝗦𝗵 𝟯𝟱 𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗼𝗻 (𝗨𝗦𝗗 𝟮𝟳𝟬,𝟬𝟬𝟬) to empower 𝟭,𝟲𝟬𝟬 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 across EABL’s value chain in western Kenya. Anchored in EABL’s Spirit of Progress strategy, the partnership ensures 𝗮𝘁 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝟱𝟬% 𝘄𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻 𝗯𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀, with a strong focus on inclusive economic growth in 𝗞𝗶𝘀𝘂𝗺𝘂, 𝗛𝗼𝗺𝗮 𝗕𝗮𝘆, and 𝗦𝗶𝗮𝘆𝗮 counties.

The initiative is built on two pillars: supporting 1,500 small-scale sorghum farmers, 60% of whom are women to improve productivity and household resilience, and piloting 𝗧𝘂𝘇𝗶𝗱𝗶 𝗞𝘂𝗶𝗻𝘂𝗮𝗻𝗮, a business skills program for 100 Senator Bar owners in Kisumu to strengthen profitability and entrepreneurship. Speaking at the signing, 𝗠𝗶𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗲 𝗡𝘂𝗻𝗻- 𝗖𝗔𝗥𝗘, 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝗘𝗢 emphasized that private sector partnerships are critical to advancing gender equality, while 𝗘𝗿𝗶𝗰 𝗞𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶- East African Breweries PLC (EABL) 𝗙𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗗𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿 reaffirmed EABL’s commitment to building a more equitable, resilient, and women-inclusive supply chain.

Nairobi City Hall has approved two paid menstrual health leave days per month for women staff.

This policy recognises menstrual health as a workplace reality, not a private burden.

It affirms dignity, wellbeing, and productivity for women in public service.
Additional details:
• Approved by the Nairobi County Cabinet
• Applies to women working under the county government
• Leave will be confidential
• It will not affect performance appraisal
• Implementation guidelines will be rolled out across departments

Climate shocks and drought, continue to disrupt water access for refugee communities housed in arid regions with women often bearing the heaviest burden.

Recently, we provided training to a select group of women in IFO 2, Dadaab on how to operate water kiosks and ATMs. This is part of @CAREinKenya and @CARE_Danmark's work on exploring how to promote refugee led business ventures in water provision services.

The women trained gained skills in:
🔧 Operating the kiosks & ATMs
💧 Safe dispensing procedures
📊 Maintaining records
👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Customer interactions

These skills will help women to build more income streams while improving community access to clean water.
