Somehow making a living from an unhealthy interest in numbers. Healthy interests in music, books, scenic views, visiting new places and Manchester United.
@northumbriana As a proud (exiled) Mancunian, Cheshire (where many NW footballers live) doesn’t offer anywhere near as much as London does. city’s main draw (Guardiola) has left and United (my team) are hamstrung by clueless owners. The NE is great, but it’s not London, Paris, Madrid etc
@davidxryan@AllisonPearson Agree no attachment to Manchester, but more affection for London … really? London is a great city - I lived there for six years - but you need deep pockets to make the most of it these days
@OldRoberts953 Ok, but look at the last few Prime Ministers who have been very ‘London-centric’ (even the one that represented a part of Yorkshire). At least he’s aware that *the majority* of the English population don’t actually live in London or the South East, so don’t knock him for that.
@SamRaincock 😂 We are going to have to agree to disagree on this one … but, because there are no signs on the M6 to ‘The North’ (they do say ‘SCOTLAND’ at some points) Carlisle clearly can’t be in it either by your logic! 😂
@SamRaincock As a York resident that often travels west / south / north (but rarely east) I’m always amused by ‘The North’ signs on the A1 / A1(M) that end just after SC. You can’t tell me the North starts there … come on. It definitely starts in Sheffield (east side, anyway).
@HughWoozencroft It’s a really good point, but as far as international business is concerned Manchester *is* the North, because it’s the closest city to Mcr Airport, with its worldwide connections.
@KingofSW6 If it was a one-off, fine, they wouldn’t. But most people learn from their mistakes and Stokes clearly hasn’t - isn’t this at least the third time he’s been in some booze-related incident?
@LauraRWeldon@thomasforth Manchester United fans used to chant ‘There’s only one United … and that’s a chocolate biscuit’ but it’s been quite some time since you could buy United biscuits.
@JNorthcroft Arsenal best team in England, no question. But they won’t be remembered well (set-pieces, time-wasting etc). They could be better than that. Yes, the odd scruffy 1-0 is a necessity for any team that wins things, but they had far too many of them.
Night out in Manchester yesterday. Passed a bar in the NQ called ‘Definitely Maybe’ 🙄. Hopefully someone will open a sex shop near it and call it ‘Morning Glory’
@kvlmason Take your point that there were more clubs having *good* seasons than bad ones but a lot of football wasn’t great. Agree Arsenal have been best team, but history won’t judge them kindly (compared to recent title winners, anyway) as they’ve been consistent rather than brilliant.
@prodnose I’m not sure Palace fans will care that much but given that they have been in existence for 121 years and spent the first 120 of them without winning a major trophy, you can’t honestly believe they won’t take any excuse to celebrate?
@BrianDoyle92 Football didn’t start in 1992 y’know.
Man Utd beat Arsenal, city, Liverpool (x2), Villa, Sun’land, Brighton (x2) of teams in Europe next season. If hadn’t drawn with Wolves, Burnley, Spurs, Forest, West Ham (x2), those extra 12 points would have them mighty close to winning it.
@carl_thompson70 As an exiled Mancunian living in Eboracum (York) can defo recommend The Fox just down the road from the Volunteer - great ales, great interior and cracking beer garden.
