The difference between the poet and the mathematician is that the poet tries to get his head into the heavens while the mathematician tries to get the heavens into his head.
— G.K. Chesterton
“There is perhaps a special danger in democratic abuses of power, namely, that being collective they are stimulated by mob hysteria. The man who has the art of arousing the witch-hunting instincts of the mob has a quite peculiar power for evil in a democracy where the habit of the exercise of power by the majority has produced that intoxication and impulse to tyranny which the exercise of authority almost invariably produces sooner or later. Against this danger, the chief protection is a sound education designed to combat the tendency to irrational eruptions of collective hate.”
— Bertrand Russell

"The reason fans continue to fight for Stargate isn't because we're stuck in the past. It's because Stargate taught us to believe in the future."

A Japanese man named Hirotaka Saito has gone viral after selling his Ferrari to fund a shelter for abused and traumatized dogs.
The 54-year-old former company executive closed his business to dedicate his life to the Wansfree Canine Rescue Centre in Yaizu, Shizuoka Prefecture. The shelter specializes in caring for dogs that have suffered severe abuse, animals so traumatized that they are often aggressive, fearful, and considered nearly unadoptable by most people.
Saito’s decision was deeply personal. Twelve years ago, after his company collapsed, he fell into deep depression and contemplated suicide. On the brink of leaving the house to end his life, his own dog physically stopped him from going. Saito credits that moment with saving his life.
Inspired by the unconditional love and support he received from his dog during his darkest time, he resolved to repay that debt by helping other dogs in need. Selling his prized Ferrari was his way of turning gratitude into meaningful action.
This heartwarming story beautifully illustrates the profound bond between humans and dogs, and how one man’s act of kindness, born from personal pain, is now giving dozens of abused animals a second chance at life.
Attention @AmazonMGMStudio and @PrimeVideo, you literally have a show starting out with modern tech into a space-faring species within just a few years. We got to watch this unfold and continue into an intergalactic species, the Fifth Race, in Stargate Atlantis, and later in Universe.
We deserve the continuity honoured. No television franchise has ever had such a grounded, progressively technological storyline unfold over the course of its tenure.
Do what's right and reinstate Martin Gero's vision of the next iteration of Stargate. Just one season, if you're tepid. I guarantee you we will show up, we will watch it, we will buy merchandise, we will buy the Blu-rays, and we will get your back.
We are not going to go away and we will not watch a reboot or a dumbed down series that caters to people who can't be bothered to put their phones down.
The customers of Stargate are the broadest possible audience in existence already: conservatives, liberals, men and women all with varyious upbringings and beliefs. Yet Stargate still brings us all together, a reminder that we have more in common than we have different in an age where sensationalist media wants us fighting over manufactured outrage to line their pockets. Stargate fans are not dumb.
We see through this and gladly come together to defend our beloved franchise. Stargate has shown us that the Jaffa and the humans can fight together and win.
We've been patient for 15 years. We will win. Together we will #SaveStarate.
Wow! It's like watching a thin sheet of water dancing through the air, almost as if a fractal screen saver came out of the screen and made itself a part of our world.
It's always humbling to watch nature performing some complex art show that beggars our understanding and underlines that all life can transcend the pinnacle of beauty that humans seem to feel is their territory alone.

So glad these paid off. It was NOT easy getting all of those details in game, but we knew it would be worth it. (Same with the lanterns.)
Shout out to @something_aj especially for managing to get so much character work in there in a very tight timeline!!

I know most don't believe it these days. However, people did have a much higher level of decency and care for one another 60+ years ago and more.
It's utterly gone now, and has been for at least 30 years. What I consider common decency is a fairy tale to 20 year old now.
I hope this tiny bit of evidence from one of the most decent human beings to ever live reminds humankind that it is a value that is slowly missing today. Please don't believe it when people say it never existed!
How to Confront a Fascist?
Bertrand Russell’s powerful and dignified refusal to debate Sir Oswald Mosley, Britain’s most prominent fascist leader.
…
Dear Sir Oswald,
Thank you for your letters and for your enclosures. I have given some thought to our recent correspondence. It is always difficult to decide on how to respond to people whose ethos is so alien and, in fact, repellent to one’s own. It is not that I take exception to the general points made by you but that every ounce of my energy has been devoted to an active opposition to cruel bigotry, compulsive violence, and the sadistic persecution which has characterised the philosophy and practice of fascism.
I feel obliged to say that the emotional universes we inhabit are so distinct, and in deepest ways opposed, that nothing fruitful or sincere could ever emerge from association between us.
I should like you to understand the intensity of this conviction on my part. It is not out of any attempt to be rude that I say this but because of all that I value in human experience and human achievement.
Yours sincerely,
Bertrand Russell
100% agree. We're going to have to be in this for the long haul.
@AmazonMGMStudio probably thinks #SaveStargate will just go away in a few weeks, but it absolutely will not. This is a fight for the future of the entire Stargate franchise, and fans are not going to go quietly into the night after this obscene betrayal.
We stand with @martingero@BaronDestructo@bradtravelers, Martin's cancelled series, and the existing Stargate canon we all know and love!
I think I'm thrilled to see this little pup moving again... and maybe a little horrified?
As long as they can keep up with how fast they are rolling, I'm cautiously thrilled!
I was so happy to see Espresso Martini take a huge stride forward today.
It's been a very hard week for her with immense pain and suffering but to see her today she is like a different dog
