YOUNG GIRL ASKS POPE FRANCIS: 'WHY DO CHILDREN SUFFER?'

During Pope Francis's 2015 visit to UST, which centered on an encounter with the youth, one young girl from the Tulay ng Kabataan Foundation approached him with a heart-wrenching question: “Why do children have to suffer?”

The Pope was left momentarily speechless. He rose from his seat, walked toward her, and met her midway on stage, where they shared an embrace. Moved, Pope Francis told the crowd that Catholics must learn to weep, saying:

"Only when we are able to weep over the things that you experienced, can we understand and give some kind of response."

The nearly two-hour youth encounter featured moving testimonies from four young individuals, each representing the poor, students, and disaster relief volunteers.
