I was heading to a restaurant inside a mixed-use apartment building and needed to enter the commercial parking area.

The road split into two entrances:

⬅️ Left: Commercial (상가)
➡️ Right: Apartments (아파트)

Since I was visiting a restaurant, the correct choice was the left entrance.

But FSD didn’t seem to understand that local context and started heading toward the apartment entrance.

🖐️ Intervention #1: I took over and moved the car into the correct lane.

I re-engaged FSD…

And it immediately tried to move back toward the apartment entrance again. 😅

🖐️ Intervention #2: Took over once more and kept the car in the commercial parking lane.

This drive made me realize how difficult the final step toward unsupervised FSD really is.

Driving isn’t always just about lanes, traffic lights, and other cars. Sometimes you need to understand what “Commercial” vs. “Apartments” means at one specific building in one specific part of Korea — and connect that information to why you’re going there.

Without learning these kinds of local details, truly unsupervised FSD still feels like a very tough challenge.

What Happened

On my morning commute, FSD suddenly turned on the blinker and started moving toward the side of the road.

I had no idea why, so I quickly intervened.

Then, a few seconds later…

I heard a siren approaching from far behind. 🚨

That’s when everything clicked.

FSD may have already been reacting to the emergency vehicle before I even realized it was there.

So technically, there was an intervention…

But this time, it was because the human was slower to understand the situation than FSD. 😂

That’s pretty reassuring.

Korea is in a similar situation. If we block or delay disruptive innovation in the name of protecting domestic industries, I think it could actually hurt their competitiveness in the long run.

Thankfully, thanks to the Korea-U.S. FTA, FSD is available on some U.S.-built Teslas here. Even FSD Lite works really well and safely in Korea — I’m living proof 😄🇰🇷⚡️

Even in rain so heavy I could barely see ahead, FSD kept reading traffic lights, changing lanes, and tracking nearby vehicles just as confidently as it does in clear weather.
