@DiscussingFilm A great feat, but not as uncommon as Discussing Film is making it out to be.
Rocky, The Blair Witch Project, Paranormal Activity, The Devil Inside, El Mariachi, etc.
@DiscussingFilm What is the source here? I can't even find an article on Discussing Film (your search seems to be broken), and none of the trades have picked this up. Is this just a rumor?
@vincent_elric@JustMyOpinion_2@sikander555A That's not factual at all. Of the kids movies released in theaters this year, only one had a bigger opening than MK2, and that was Mario Galaxy
@JustMyOpinion_2@sikander555A You can't talk to these people. They don't want to hear anything negative about MK2, even if you're just stating facts.
It doesn't even seem as though the producer wants to hear any negatives. Just means MK3 won't perform as well and it'll be another decade to get new one
@Oka_Sel@sikander555A Neither. I'm simply explaining how movie budgets work. The fact you don't want to believe me, or Google the information yourself is on you π€£
Not to mention I said the movie is doing great, but I guess reading is difficult around these parts
@sikander555A Right, the marketing was pointed directly at gamers. The movie doesn't appeal well to anyone who doesn't know the games (and even a few of those fans didn't like it). If the movie was marketed to a wider audience, it may have done better, but it's doing well either way
@Oka_Sel@sikander555A This is factually incorrect. WB doesn't get to keep 100% of the revenue generated in theaters. They keep about half. In addition, the $80M budget doesn't include P&A, which usually doubles the budget. So while an $80M start is great, it has not made it's money back yet
@HavikFanChaos@unCAGEDgamez@MKMovie@WBHomeEnt Your opinion of my opinion is irrelevant. There are plenty of reviews that agree with me, and plenty that don't. But I do agree that this film is better than 2021.
You feel so strongly about this you think anyone who dislikes it is a hater? Odd stance, but love the passion!
@HSlap0725086@Todd_Garner Ridiculous how?
Jax not having purple effects is nitpicky. Jax having no character arc is a legit flaw. You could remove him from the film or replace him with any other Earthrealm fighter and nothing changes. Whether you care about that flaw is on you, but the criticism is fair
@Todd_Garner As a fan of the games AND a film critic, I did not enjoy it. Better than the last one, but please get a better writer for MK3, and pay more attention to character details. A better script will go a long way. Just because some MK fans liked it doesn't make it good. Please improve
@HavikFanChaos@unCAGEDgamez@MKMovie@WBHomeEnt Sorry, I missed this notification. I was expecting it to be bad because I thought the first movie was, and it's basically the same creative team with an arguably worse writer. Most reactions like this are positive, even for bad films.
And I was correct, the movie was bad so...
@CabooseEK Having now seen the movie, I completely disagree. Kung Lao and Lui Kang aside... just about everything except Sonya's rings, Sindel's scream, and Shao Khan's charge was poorly done at best. Maybe you just have low expectations? I don't know, but it could've been way better
@Jejjune@tx_tofu@jiyunaJP Again, no one is arguing the fact Tekken should be higher. I asked you what number you think would be respectable enough to not warrant the measly comment, which was the whole point of this conversation.
@Jejjune@tx_tofu@jiyunaJP Removing SF6 from the equation, every other game at Evo Japan is below Tekken 8. It's only down 13% from last year when it was also #2.
What kind of numbers would you expect if T8 was in a good place? What entry numbers would deserve "mere" instead of "measly" in your mind?
@Jejjune@tx_tofu@jiyunaJP T8 is garbage right now, but the point is that you don't need to throw shade at every other game just because competitive SF6 is performing better than any fighting game in history. If a second article is written about Tekken 8, fine. This isn't that article.
