Failed L.A. mayoral candidate and former reality star Spencer Pratt reacted to his loss with a fiery video calling opponents "commie animals" and declaring "war." Councilmember @nithyavraman, who beat Pratt to reach the runoff, responds: "quite a concession speech." #ConnectwithJacob https://t.co/tr9RBBhhAK
Jane Fonda has relaunched the Committee for the First Amendment, a McCarthy-era initiative founded in the 1940s by her father, Henry Fonda, to protect against attacks on free speech.
"The McCarthy Era ended when Americans from across the political spectrum finally came together and stood up for the principles in the Constitution against the forces of repression. Those forces have returned. And it is our turn to stand together in defense of our constitutional rights," Fonda said in a statement. "We refuse to stand by and let that happen. Free speech and free expression are the inalienable rights of every American of all backgrounds and political beliefs — no matter how liberal or conservative you may be. The ability to criticize, question, protest, and even mock those in power is foundational to what America has always aspired to be."
The Committee has already received the support of more than 550 A-list names, including Gracie Abrams, Quinta Brunson, Kerry Washington, Natalie Portman, Aaron Sorkin, Spike Lee, Viola Davis, Pedro Pascal, Ben Stiller, Whoopi Goldberg, Sean Penn, John Legend, Damon Lindelof, Julianne Moore, Janelle Monae, Barbra Streisand, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Ethan Hawke, Judd Apatow, Billie Eillish, Anjelica Huston and Rosie O’Donnell.

Musk is continuing his wildly distorted claims attacking USAID. The last round is debunked below.
And I'll unpack the reality in this 🧵, too. 1/13 https://t.co/Z8O3X3EEjS
Confused about why losing USAID matters so much? Take it from Republican @RepMcCaul —“by projecting the goodwill and generosity of the American people, your work has helped America strengthen its own national security and deepen important international relationships.”
Outraged by Elon Musk’s illegal takedown of USAID? Need a new sweatshirt?
All proceeds of USAID Forever sweatshirts will benefit orgs supporting USAID staff including Democracy Forward https://t.co/0aCs3jxpAt
Confused about why losing USAID matters so much? Take it from @LindseyGrahamSC — the agency is “a force for good, creating a great impression for our country, improving the lives of others, which is good foreign policy, good national security.”
An idea to export products steeped in Ethiopian heritage impacted an entire community at #MuyaEthiopia. @USAID helped Muya grow from 10 employees to over 500, and today I’m proud to announce @OPIC’s financial commitment to continue Muya’s growth! #WGDP
The illegal raid on #USAID should alarm every American. It puts our national security at risk and forecasts what's to come next. #SaveForeignAid#StandwithUSAID
I’m proud to be an American because of #USAID. You should be too. Call your Members of Congress now and demand they act to protect USAID. https://t.co/E1ozBIVpg2 #SaveForeignAid#StandwithUSAID
Eliminating USAID and undercutting America’s role in international assistance makes Americans less safe. It debilitates American leadership and leaves the world more open to Chinese influence. It would be a massive mistake.
Look, Trump is trying to oversaturate us with nonstop chaos so we can’t react meaningfully to any one thing.
But Friday's global stop work order on almost all U.S. aid is dumb and murderous. You need to know about it.
1/ A short🧵on this evil.

Was great to be in “the room where it happens” yesterday to hear @PowerUSAID@FedorovMykhailo@OMarkarova talk about the e-governance app Diia. Connected citizens equals technology that promotes good democracy!
