Una reflexión sobre el apoyo de Trump a la dictadora interina Delcy Rodríguez.
Están a punto de cometer un error similar al que hizo que EEUU abandone de manera definitiva Vietnam en 1975 de un modo humillante
También en Vietnam del Sur apoyaron a un régimen corrupto hasta la médula como es el chavismo. En ese caso fue el del dictador Nguyen Van Thieu, que gobernó el sur desde que derrocó a su antecesor Ngo Dinh Diem en 1965, hasta que huyó a Taiwán en 1975 con una fortuna robada.
Era la misma matriz de podredumbre que durante el chavismo: su gobierno desvió millones de dólares en ayuda económica y militar enviada por Washington. Toleró que altos mandos militares vendieran suministros médicos, combustible y armas estadounidenses en el mercado negro, a veces incluso al Viet Cong. Los cargos de comandantes militares se compraban y vendían, priorizando el dinero sobre la lealtad o el talento. Los militares se apropiaban de los campos fértiles y desalojaban a sus pobladores. Eran los dueños de un sistema de represión y torturas tan brutal como masivo.
Mientras tanto, EEUU obstaculizó a líderes más populares y sin la mácula de la corrupción como era el caso del Tran Van Hurong. O a Durong Van Minh, un general conocido popularmente como "Big Minh", al que no se le permitió regresar del exilio en Tailandia.
La convivencia entre el régimen de Nguyen Van Thieu y los enviados de EEUU terminó por crear una imagen de ambos como un sistema único entre los survietnamitas. Vietnam del Norte usó el descontento para reclutar adherentes y eventualmente condujo a su victoria ante una población sureña que veía al régimen apoyado por Washington como el mal mayor.
El mejor oráculo para consultar está en los libros de historia. Alguien debería instalar una biblioteca que los contenga en el Salón Oval. Y enseñarle a Trump que leerlos es bastante más entretenido que ver peleas de la UFC y, por sobre todo, mas útil para su tarea como presidente.
Y quizás le evite repetir el error de apoyar a Delcy, que viene en el mismo paquete que Diosdado Cabello, Padrino López y toda la bandada de buitres que recorren las ruinas de los terremotos buscando algo para depredar.
La gente está pasando de dolida a furiosa en Venezuela. Tiene motivos de sobra para estallar y ya nada que perder, literalmente.
Trump no fue a la Guerra de Vietnam por algunas prórrogas que pidió para no marchar al frente. Puede que Vietnam vaya a él si no entiende la lección que aun no puede ver por tener los ojos llenos de petróleo ajeno.
Todavía está a tiempo para adivinar quien es el socio correcto para salir de la trampa en la que metió su pata.

To every American businessperson who has traveled to Caracas in the last few months, met with Delcy Rodríguez, signed deals, convinced themselves that "things are changing" and that engagement is pragmatic. This is for you…

For those who believe the American government fiction that "everything is going great" with Delcy…. you are watching your thesis collapse in real time, under rubble, with no one coming to help.

The fiction that Venezuela is "open for business" exists for one reason: Delcy and her brother Jorge need your money, your legitimacy, and your silence. They have no intention of reforming. They respond that they just "don't know" when elections will take place. They have no intention of being held accountable for the billions looted, the political prisoners disappeared, the diaspora of more than eight million people. They need you as props. They need you to keep telling Washington that things are "great!" And that Delcy is exactly what Venezuela needs right now to "stabilize" and "reform."

What this earthquake reveals, as every crisis in Venezuela reveals, is that Maduro and his cronies hollowed out every institution. PDVSA. The hospitals. The fire departments. Civil defense. Emergency services. All of it stripped to the bone and the proceeds wired offshore.

The death toll will be much higher precisely because of what the people now in power did over the last 25 years.

Let's be clear: The people dying tonight and in the next few days under collapsed buildings in Caracas are not dying because of an earthquake. They are dying because of 25 years of systematic looting by the same people now issuing press releases about a "state of emergency." Because they're wholly unprepared. Because they looted everything. Did away with talent. And on top of all of this have zero empathy or motivation to help anyone but themselves. They didn’t care about millions of people fleeing into a jungle and walking hundreds of miles to freedom. Why would they care about survivors of this natural disaster?

The media locally isn't reporting or showing the images of the devastation. They're terrified of upsetting the dictatorship.

And tonight:

Not a firefighter in sight. Not an ambulance in sight. Just cameras, and Delcy, and the performance of governance where none exists.

Those businesspeople were warned. The Venezuelans who fled told you. The human rights organizations told you. The evidence was always there.
