@SamQuinnCBS I know JB is very talented - but how would he do on a team with Deni and Dame? They’re ball dominant players, and Deni and JB have pretty similar games. Seems like Trey Murphy would be a better fit on Portland - or if you’re Dundon and feel okay overpaying - go get Lauri
Celtics fans have gotten so used to fleecing other teams that they have unrealistic expectations for a Jaylen Brown return from Portland.
Yes, he’s a great player - top 15 in the league. But what are the premiums in today’s NBA?
3 pt Shooting, defense, and possessions - Jaylen Brown isn’t great from 3, average-below average off ball (though great on ball defense), and has a higher turnover percentage.
He’s also shooting guard/small forward size - not a premium in the NBA.
So yes, a great player, but don’t expect a Giannis size package for him.
TLDR: Get outta here with a Clingan, Scoot, Grant + 4 firsts return
In order of preference for a Jaylen Brown trade I’d rather do:
1: Shaedon
2: Scoot
3: Donovan
Shaedon has all the talent but I worry about the defense and “dog factor”
Scoot has skill on offense and defense but doesn’t put it together consistently
Donovan has dog and talent - just needs to up the efficiency at the rim on offense and get better with defensive rebounding
@blazersedge Sure, I’d trade Clingan for Wemby, Mobley, Bam, or Jokic.
Outside of that - I’m not trading him. Good centers are hard to find. Good centers with both all-defense talent and the ability to stretch the floor are immensely difficult to find.
As cool as it’d be for Portland to get a “star” we’re much better off overpaying for Lauri Markannen. Need an offball player that can shoot and slots in the Power Forward spot.
Here’s where I’m at. Jaylen would make us better. But he’d do so by doubling down on our existing strengths. Our weak points on O are, in order, turnovers, 3P shooting, and shot creation. He helps with only 1 of those 3. I’ll embrace it if we get him, but I’m deeply skeptical.
@blazers_palace No - an above average center with the potential to space the floor and be an All-Defense member is the most valuable and scarce asset in the league.
Just in: The Portland Trail Blazers are hiring Minnesota Timberwolves lead assistant Micah Nori as the franchise's next head coach, sources tell ESPN. Nori -- widely regarded as one of the league's top assistants -- has been in the NBA coaching ranks since 2009 and now takes over in Portland on a multiyear deal.
