Trooper Zachary Vasquez and K-9 Guido were involved in a serious head-on crash near Alpine on June 23. Trooper Vasquez suffered significant injuries and faces multiple surgeries. Guido survived and is recovering.

Trooper Sergio Romero dedicated his life to serving others. On June 17, 2026, he made the ultimate sacrifice while serving the people of Texas.

A memorial T-shirt fundraiser has been created to honor his legacy and support his wife and two young sons.

🚨 Trooper Kurt Kelm was seriously injured while conducting a commercial vehicle inspection on IH-45 in Leon County. He is in the ICU and faces multiple reconstructive surgeries and a long recovery.

His wife is expecting their third child, and the DPS Troopers Foundation has launched a #HelpAHero campaign to support their family.

• Mayes Middleton defeating Chip Roy in the GOP AG runoff
• Nathan Johnson winning the Democratic AG runoff
• Vikki Goodwin winning the Democratic Lt. Governor runoff
• Bo French defeating Railroad Commissioner Jim Wright

Several major congressional and legislative races in Houston and Dallas also saw significant runoff results as candidates now shift focus toward November.

The future of law enforcement was on full display in San Antonio.

DPSOA & DPSTF proudly hosted the first-ever DPSOA/DPSTF Central Texas Explorer Competition, bringing together 30 Explorer teams from across Texas for a day of leadership, teamwork, and real-world law enforcement scenarios.

What made it special? Texas DPS personnel showed up in force. Troopers, Rangers, investigators, retirees, and specialized units volunteered as mentors, judges, and role models for these future leaders.

We didn't just host the event - we invested in the future, awarding $9,000+ in scholarships:
