There are not regulations on mountain lion trapping in Texas. Last week, the organization Texans for Mountain Lions submitted a petition to Texas Parks and Wildlife to change this and protect our state’s mountain lion populations.

In order to sustain a healthy population, mountain lions need large amounts of space- an average home range of a mountain lion is 100 square miles! As an “umbrella species” several other plants and wildlife benefit when mountain lion habitat is protected.

The coat of a jaguar and leopard look very similar, and to an untrained eye, they are often mistaken for one another. Some of the rosettes, or the spots, on a jaguar's coat have a dot in the middle, whereas leopards don't. 🐾
