Some snaps taken during sound check by @coffeewithjoe at @watfordpalace on Sunday ahead of our performance at @EnrichFestival. What a beautiful venue - and such a wonderful event too!
Thanks to @HertsInclusive for having us along - and thanks to Joe and Kai Carter for joining me
Three days at @wr_audio with @biffroxby โ guitar and mandolin parts down for two albums' worth of material. Came in thinking album and EP, left with something bigger. Biff left me a note. He's right ๐ More soon. ๐ถ #newmusic#folkmusic#indiefolk
A quick phone pan of the live room at @wr_audio just after we wrapped. Three days, guitar, mandolin, a ukulele, a trad round โ enough for two albums. More coming tomorrow... ๐ Audio is the intro to new song "Words" (WIP). #folkmusic#newrecord#recordingstudio
Ukulele came out for a short trad round during the sessions โ "White Sand and Grey Sand". Fingerpicked uke and open G guitar, mostly about the vocal harmonies. Made by Wunderkammer Musical Instrument Co. Thanks @wr_audio and @biffroxby ๐ถ #ukulele#folkmusic#tradmusic
Producer's orders ๐ Three days at @wr_audio with @biffroxby โ six guitar tunings, mandolin, a trad round. Ended up with enough for two albums. 17 tracks total. #folkmusic#recordingstudio
Day 1 at @wr_audio โ got my station set up with Biff Roxby, cameras running. Goal was to lock in final guitar and mandolin parts, building on band sessions from October. After Biff has done some editing we'll work out what else these recordings need. Long day, focused start.
Biff Roxby picked me up in Bristol on Monday โ three days at @wr_audio in Salford recording guitar and mandolin for the new record. More this week... ๐ธ #newmusic#folkmusic#indiefolk
New video! ๐๐ต
I was commissioned by Bristol folk musician Joff Lowson to illustrate his song "All The Bananas" โ a cartoony but slightly sinister allegory about hoarding and inequality.
Here's the commission reveal โ with a few banana-related distractions along the way ๐
Inspired by this quote from @welcomewords:
"If a monkey hoarded more bananas than it could eat, while most of the other monkeys starved, scientists would study that monkey to figure out what the heck was wrong with it. When humans do it, we put them on the cover of Forbes."
New illustration! ๐๐ต
Commissioned by Bristol folk musician Joff Lowson for his song "All The Bananas" โ a cartoony but slightly sinister allegory about hoarding and inequality.
The brief: a tower of shipping containers, crates, and bananas ๐๏ธ a giant-yet-tiny monkey ๐ and a rubberhose style inspired by Cuphead โ with a modern twist.
@coffeewithjoe@wr_audio Huge thanks to the full crew:
Kai Carter (clarinet / guitar / banjo),
Joe Mansfield (violin / viola),
Bill Frampton (double bass),
and @mattmcnic (drums).
Canโt wait to share this new music with you soon!
Some snaps taken by @coffeewithjoe during our first four days of recording in Manchester, 16thโ19th October. We spent the days at @wr_audio and set up camp in Irlam โ complete with a few rounds of cards in between sessions
@coffeewithjoe@wr_audio On Wednesday the 15th, producer Biff Roxby and I put together an ambitious plan: record all the core band parts in just four days. And Iโm very happy to sayโฆ we absolutely smashed it
@coffeewithjoe@wr_audio@mattmcnic Song Iโm playing here is โBenevolent Hypocriteโ โ the track we chose to kick off these sessions. Wrote between 2010๏ฟฝ๏ฟฝ2012, so one of the older pieces in this batch. Played it for years, sometimes as alternate opener when rooms are quietโฆ so felt like the right one to begin with
@coffeewithjoe@wr_audio Biff Roxbyโs plugging everything in, @mattmcnic is poised at the drum kit, Kai Carterโs ready at his station, and Bill Frampton is somewhere just out of frame!
