The most memorable thing I've learned this semester is how to help my future students with common grammatical issues. There are many ways to teach these subjects and make them interactive and fun for kids, and I've added them all to my teacher toolkit! #ling107s22#finalthoughts
I couldn't agree more with this tweet! I feel that a lot of people seem to ignore these signs because they feel they wouldn't get caught, or that it's not serious. These are there to prevent anything serious from happening! #ling107s22
Okay, I am a parent, but there is nothing more annoying than a parent who is in a hurry to drop off or pick up their child. Or better yet, waiting in the pickup line on their phone, not paying attention! #ling107s22
When I was growing up, my mom and I always knew what we meant when we said we were going to "the little store", which referred to the liquor/market store that was around the corner from our house. Super interesting to think about this! #ling107s22
My question for the week is about grammar: What are some of the best ways educators can teach students about words that end with an E? (ex: please, giraffe, make, complete, hope) My kinder kiddos seem to ALWAYS forget to add the E! #ling107s22
@Daisy_cgonzalez One suggestion I have with teaching EL: Provide them the opportunity to respond Yes/No in their own language, or by using symbols. Colors work great too, green for yes, and red for no. This seems to help with language barriers! Hope this helps!
When at work, we don't like to use modals as they seem to be too questionable/ uncertain. For example, "I might be out next week". Well, if someone is out, that means we need to plan to cover their position. Let's be clear with our words and intent! #education#ling107s22
My language role model is my best friend, Jennifer. She grew up only speaking Spanish but taught herself English growing up. Today, she stands as an English-Spanish translator for her mother and other close family members. I admire her to great lengths. #ling107s22
Disclaimer: I am 100% okay! I went through a rough time many years ago, so that's how I felt inspired. Many feel this way and don't talk about it. I'm here to say: You aren't alone! We must get rid of the stigma of talking about mental health. #MentalHealthMatters
Wake up feeling numb- time to pop the "happy" pills. Starting the day, feeling nervous. Waiting for them to kick in...at least the placebo. I have so many goals but no will-to-go? Finished my day but haven't done a single thing. I'm tired of being so tired. #cnftweet#ling107s22
When I went to Florida a few months ago, I went to the everglades and I saw a VERY similar sign near the tourist area. My mind was blown! I couldn't believe the irony. I couldn't find the actual picture, but this will do! I can't even think why this was made! LOL! #ling107s22
I want to recommend the account @EdSource for all educators! This account is a non-profit from the Bay Area, CA that is providing up-to-date news about COVID in the classroom, teacher grants, and general updates in regards to all schools/universities in California! #Ling107s22
.. able to find out the meaning. Since then, not a week has gone by where I don't use the word myself in my own vocabulary. The word is used either in a specific educational setting (most common) or just as a way of teaching (in general everyday life). (2/2) #Ling107s22
The word that I had learned but have seen been used everywhere is "pedagogy". I was a freshman (4 years ago) at SJSU taking a Child and Adolescence course and heard it being repeated in a lecture. Using context clues and the help of the textbook, I was easily...(1/2) #Ling107s22
(cont.) I've also noticed that when I step away to pull my mask down to show them my mouth formation when I make the "th" sound, (just like in the pic above) they then pull their masks down, and then it's a domino effect. #ling107s22
With my EL kiddos, I'm noticing a pattern: Difficulty with pronouncing the sound "th". It's hard for me to show them what to do with their mouth to make the sound with COVID-19 right now (masks). It's tricky since some words have "th" voiced and some unvoiced. #ling107s22
My friend is moving from Medford, OR down to the Bay Area, CA today and told me she just stopped in the city Yreka. (Pronounced "Y"-reka) Hmmm. When I first heard of this city, I assumed it was spelled like "Ur-eka". Anyone else? #ling107s22
