The Humiliating History of the TSA
There’s no evidence two decades of pat-downs and shoe removal have made travelers any safer — so why does the theater of airport security persist?

“History has repeatedly demonstrated that whenever people's personal data is tracked and stored, there's always a risk that it could be misused or abused.”

"A tracking tool installed on many hospitals’ websites has been collecting patients’ sensitive health information—including details about their medical conditions, prescriptions, and doctor’s appointments—and sending it to #Facebook." https://t.co/585Aj6tOE7
The Race to Hide Your Voice
Voice recognition—and data collection—have boomed in recent years. Researchers are figuring out how to protect your privacy.

Most #privacy policies are uninformative and exploitative. A good privacy policy is one that informs you that none of your personal #data is being collected, stored, analyzed or shared. A good #tech product is one that shields you from data vultures.

The worry is that figuring out people's ages will lead to further #privacy losses. The solution is to protect everyone like we want to protect children. Adults shouldn't be exposed to these harms either. https://t.co/zdIJ2zZA1P
NEW: We obtained an internal police doc about driverless car programs that says they are "recording their surroundings continuously," footage is available to cops, and that it's been used for investigations. Driverless cars are persistent moving spy cams

1/ 🚨NEW REPORT 🚨
We’re excited to release our new investigation into ICE surveillance: https://t.co/LmKUeGEkAo.
What did we find in two years of research on thousands of records? ICE surveillance is much broader than people realize–it’s an #AmericanDragnet.
Hypothesis: GDPR et al. have *increased* innovation by requiring better data protection and privacy. Loss of unaccountable privacy-invasive means is not a loss of innovation, but a loss of exploitation. And that is an *intended* consequence of such laws.
"It emphasizes how much control we’ve lost over our digital selves.... virtually unregulated marketplace where data brokers collect massive amounts of personal info... virtually no restraints on .gov as a consumer in the surveillance economy"
"People gave information (...) in hopes of feeling better, then it turns out their #data was used in ways that help companies make money (and don’t help them)."
Healthcare is based on trust. If we continue to violate #privacy, public trust will be lost.
