Chief Obafemi Awolowo (GCFR) stood in a league of his own. Look, you cannot fully grasp his greatness without walking through history and seeing how far ahead of his time he truly was.
Yesterday, I joined a group of experts to inspect the new Farm Settlements across Ogun State. The farm settlements (28 so far) are ambitious projects of the Ogun State Govt, assisted by the World Bank. What we saw was more than just infrastructure; it was history revived and scaled.
Long before “food security” became a buzzword, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, in the late 1950s, conceived the idea of farm settlements and agricultural clusters across Western Nigeria. His vision was simple but revolutionary: to create purpose-built communities where farmers are trained and supported to produce poultry, fish, and crops at scale. Backed by shared infrastructure for processing, storage, power, and access to markets. The aim was surplus production, price stability, rural development, and export readiness.
Sadly, that bold vision was abandoned for decades.
Today, under Governor @DapoAbiodunCON, Ogun State has revived this idea as a truly modern, industrial-scale agricultural strategy. With strong political will, private-sector participation, and World Bank support, the farm-cluster model has been redesigned to meet modern world class standards.
Key Highlights from our Inspection:
Odeda Farm Settlement :
•100,000-capacity poultry pens
•Hatchery and storage facilities
•Modern processing units
•Infrastructure fully completed and near commissioning.
Ajegunle Farm Settlement:
•1-megawatt solar power grid powering all operations off-grid
•Year-round independent power for processing and cold storage
•Industrial-grade facilities nearing completion
Facilities and Planned Production Capacity (Ajegunle)
•5,000-birds-per-day broiler processing facility.
•. 1.3 million birds annually
•Cold rooms, blast freezers, and waste-processing systems
•10,000-capacity poultry pens, with an additional 13,000-capacity pen delivered by private investors
•Designed to host over 400 farmers within the settlement
We also visited a cassava processing facility in Ilaro, where a modern plant is under construction. We picked a lesson there: Nigeria is the world’s largest producer of cassava, yet we are not among the top exporters. Thailand, which produces far less, earns about $1.2 billion annually from cassava exports, while Nigeria earns barely 1% of that, largely due to limited processing, value addition, and export-focused infrastructure.
On the next scheduled inspection, we will see a fish farm in Ogun East, which is set to be the largest fish farm in all of West Africa. This will be significant, given that Nigeria currently meets only about 45% of its annual fish demand, with the remaining 55% imported. Expanding domestic aquaculture at this scale is critical to reducing imports, conserving foreign exchange, creating jobs, and strengthening national food security.
Ogun State will lead Nigeria’s agricultural revolution.
Spare 3 mins of your time to watch and see how Ogun State is transforming agriculture in Nigeria at the industrial scale. 🔥🔥
These projects are a game-changer for Nigeria.
Even critics will commend this.

The personal ages of the wives are immaterial. The important thing is who was married into the family first. However, a wise 3rd son’s wife will respect the wives of the sons older than her own husband, not for the sake of the wives but to honour her husband’s elder brothers.
You know the way the wives of second-term Governors respect the wife of even a first-term President? It’s like that @jon_d_doe.
I am Ezemmuo. I know things.
Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company Limited (SNEPCo), a subsidiary of Shell plc, together with Sunlink Energies and Resources Limited, have taken a final investment decision (FID) on the HI gas project offshore Nigeria.
When completed, the project will supply 350 million standard cubic feet (approximately 60 thousand barrels of oil equivalent) of gas per day at peak production to Nigeria LNG (NLNG; Shell interest 25.6%), which produces and exports liquefied natural gas (LNG) to global markets. Production is expected to begin before the end of this decade.
“Following recent investment decisions related to the Bonga deep-water development, today’s announcement demonstrates our continued commitment to Nigeria’s energy sector, with a focus on Deepwater and Integrated Gas,” said Peter Costello, Shell’s Upstream President. “This Upstream project will help Shell grow our leading Integrated Gas portfolio, while supporting Nigeria’s plans to become a more significant player in the global LNG market.”
The increase in feedstock to NLNG, via the Train 7 project that aims to expand the Bonny Island terminal’s production capacity, is in line with Shell’s plans to grow its global LNG volumes by an average of 4-5% per year until 2030. It will also bolster NLNG’s contribution to Nigeria's national economic development goals, including jobs in construction and operations.
The HI field was discovered in 1985 and lies in 100m of water depth around 50km from the shore. The current estimated recoverable resource volumes of the HI project are approximately 285 mmboe (million barrels of oil equivalent).

Let us imagine the Tax Reform Bill is a brand new football rule, like "No more offsides"
1. The President is the FIFA Boss, and he has just signed the new rule. So, officially, the rule has changed, it is now law. But…
2. Before it can be used in real matches, the new rule must be added to the FIFA rulebook and shared with every referee, coach, and player around the world. That is like publishing it in the Federal Government Gazette.
3. So, while we wait for that to happen, here is what to expect:
- The rulebook editors are updating the manual (This is the gazetting process.)
- Referees are being trained on how to handle the new rule in a match. (Government agencies are studying how to implement the law.)
- Coaches and clubs are informed, they need to update their game strategies. (Businesses, citizens, and stakeholders are sensitized.)
- Analysts will break it down on TV – “What does this new rule mean for our Super Eagles?” (Experts will explain the law in simpler terms.)
So until the rule is in the official FIFA book (gazette), you cannot start using it in real matches yet. But once it is, game on.
