The Canadian recession has absolutely nothing to do with Trump; we were already sliding into a per-capita recession in 2022, well before Trump.

Real GDP per capita started falling in mid-2022 and dropped for multiple quarters in a row. The only reason total GDP looked okay was due to record immigration and temporary residents exploding the population by over 1 million people that year alone. Immigration padded the headline numbers while living standards actually declined.

The per-capita recession started years ago; the headlines just caught up.
