Ian Winship, 90, ran the Cumbernauld 10K in 1:04:37, believed to be a world best for his age.
Meanwhile, some of us would like the delivery driver to come a bit closer to the sofa.
Absolutely magnificent, Ian. 👏

Lulingu was rescued from wildlife traffickers at 18 months old. At a sanctuary, another gorilla became her surrogate mum.
After years of care, she returned to the wild. This May, she had her own baby.
Good people helped make that whole next chapter possible. 💛

@SheldrickTrust That pile of snares is horrible to look at, but a relief to see out of use. Thank you for the hard work and care you put into protecting these animals. 💛
At 14, Emmylou Vaxby has published a guide to mudlarking on the Thames and organises riverbank clean-ups.
Finding bits of history while clearing up after the rest of us.
Rather more useful than just telling teenagers to get outside. 💛

Seeing through fog sounds rather useful.
Brown University engineers tracked moving shapes through fog and murky water in lab tests.
It could one day help search-and-rescue teams.

@HgateAdvertiser One day’s work, with outdoor lessons and things to grow coming after it. That’s a very worthwhile day out of the office. Well done to the volunteers giving Pannal’s pupils this space.
@hackaday A promising idea. Do the tests also measure whether the filter sheds particles as it’s used? That seems an important part of checking how much cleaner the water comes out.
@coop_finance A pub, a meeting place and a cultural hub. Plenty of reasons to pop in, even if you’re only nursing a lime and soda. Lovely work by everyone bringing The New Clarence back into community use.
A village pub closed. Its neighbours raised £450,000 to help buy it back. 🍻
Upper Basildon residents are clearing the grounds, with reopening hoped for next spring.
We’ll raise a glass to that.

What’s something good happening where you live that deserves a bit more attention?
A volunteer project, a local rescue, somewhere brought back to life. We’d love to hear about it.

Twelve years after her rescue, Lilly’s days include mud, fruit with friends and finding a good spot for a nap.
A lovely reminder of what years of patient care can make possible. 🐘

Happy 12th Rescueversary, Lilly! 🌸🐘
Playing in the mud, sharing fruit with her friends, finding the perfect spot for a quick nap, and, of course, stretching her trunk towards the tallest branch she can reach, Lilly has certainly mastered the art of enjoying the little things in life.
Playful and curious, Lilly always seems to find a little mischief wherever she goes. But 12 years ago, Lilly’s life looked very different.
In 2014, she was rescued from Sirsa with the Haryana Forest Department after being used as a begging elephant. She had been made to walk the streets, carrying the burden of a life she had never chosen.
If there’s one thing Lilly continues to remind us, it’s that there is always time for a little fun!
Meet the tilcayo, a little wild cat from Bolivia’s cloud forests.
DNA has helped scientists recognise it as a distinct species.
Local communities already knew it and gave it the name. Lovely to see science catching up with the neighbours.

A useful second life for the fizzy-drink bottle.
Cambridge researchers have tested a sunlight-powered reactor that turns plastic waste into hydrogen fuel.
There’s more work needed before commercial use, but that’s a clever start.
