@cakesauce All sympathy for that animal left my body the day it woke me up at 4am. What I don’t understand is how in a campus full of cats that god damn chicken managed to survive
@gbrl_dick@0xJoIris https://t.co/Cfnokn1rex I agree its been increasing, I never said it was the sole driver of inequality, but It does seem like it will continue to have a major impact. As for your second point : https://t.co/IHMZGTquBN
@gbrl_dick@neoliberalaf It does, read Hobsbawm. Do I think the Industrial Rev was a good thing, yeah. Do I think it had many awful impacts in the short term, also yeah. Read about 1848, Craftsmen and Artisans were the first to turn to violence due to the IR. We must take the social issues seriously
@gbrl_dick@0xJoIris If a technology threatens to make millions of people redundant, how could this not be a concern? Wealth inequality is increasing because of AI and will continue to do so. Again not saying I want to block development, but to protect vulnerable people at least during a transition
@0xJoIris@gbrl_dick Not entertaining another AI utopian who claims that all issues will be magically solved in a heartbeat. Whats the point of cheap goods if wages are also crushed? What about Energy? Mineral Scarcity? This is an unrealistic answer with little thought put into it.
@APearlBird@gbrl_dick In the past 20 years many countries in the “third world” were catching up with Western Economies, some are now saying that trend will reverse. Huge populations with backsliding economic growth will cause havoc on the world.
@neoliberalaf@gbrl_dick I don't think the premise of AGI is 100% negative, but it will have profound social impacts that will impact everyone, many will see quality of life decreases. If you're replaced by AI, you become stuck doing the work it can't do, ie manual labour/low paid work. The majority will
@0xJoIris@gbrl_dick I'm not saying we shouldn't develop AI, but it has to be regulated for all our sakes. Wealth inequality has already skyrocketed and will continue to grow. During the industrial revolution living standards for millions decreased bc governments failed to regulate.
@gbrl_dick Any profession/industry that is instantly substitutable by AI ie: call centres, data entry clerks, backend software engineers, a large amount of offshored jobs etc will be replaced. Much of the AI hardware and development is being done in like 2-5 countries
