My favorite bit of game theory nonsense about legacy media is that big outlets/channels -- NYT, WaPo, CNN, etc. -- have a logical imperative to follow a not-so-subtle double standard in coverage in order to maintain access to Trump, the GOP, etc., so that they can report on critical things that would otherwise be hidden from the public if said outlets don't have that access.
Basically: "We're not nearly as hard on Trump and the GOP because we'll need access down the road for some critical moment when our duty to the public will be more important than ever, so preserving access is a public service."
This isn't said out loud, of course. It's subtext. It's implied. It's obliquely referenced.
And when I see a pundit or reporter try to subtly offer this up, I can't help but laugh because what "big moment" are they waiting for exactly?
Are they waiting for Trump to do something really crazy like steal numerous Top Secret classified documents and store them to be sold at a later date to the highest bidder?
Are they waiting for Trump to encourage his most extreme supporters to overthrow the U.S. government and toss out the results of a free and fair election?
Are they waiting for Trump to do something really unthinkable like openly praising the Third Reich and committing to the mass round-up of millions of people?
Are they waiting for Trump to be publicly linked to some kind of large totalitarian blueprint that calls for the federal service to be replaced with his loyal supporters?
Are they waiting for Trump to directly threaten political reporters by hoping they'll be a shot at one of his rallies?
Where exactly is the line for this Big Moment that's worth the relative silence of political press and double standards in coverage to preserve access to Trump?
Not one of these folks who weakly offer this justification seem to know where that line is.
But the ante keeps going up and up, outlets decline to press Trump hard and consistently on shocking stories that should never get lost in the news cycle, and still, some of these pundits and reporters fall back on that bizarre, subtextual reasoning: "We might need access for a moment when it's even more important."
We are living through an enormous crisis in much of political media at the moment, and my feeling is that history will not be kind to the logic or moral soundness of this approach.
First, MAGA started wearing diapers, then they wore tampons on their ears, and now they’re dressing like garbage.
No wonder these fucking dipshits are the laughingstock of the entire world.
BREAKING: In a stunning announcement, after distancing himself from Project 2025, Donald Trump announced he will appoint Tom Homan (Project 2025’s author) on day 1. Retweet to make sure all Americans see this and know Donald Trump is Project 2025
Economists say Donald Trump will bankrupt Social Security in the next six years if he is elected president.
Understand what that means. Social Security is the only source of income for so many seniors, and the only way they’re able to pay their rent and buy food.
Whatever dirty secrets Trump & Johnson might share, if the Speaker moves to invalidate the results of a free & fair election, and Trump is in on it, then both should be arrested & charged with seditious conspiracy.
Trump wants a stronger executive branch? Fine, let him have it.
Let’s clear up some myths about those pandemic stimulus checks: A Democratic majority in Congress pushed to send those checks out and get help to the American people.
All Donald Trump did was put his name on them.
Hey men!
Masculinity cannot be defined by a weak man.
Real men take care of the women in their lives, not leave it up to someone else.
Tamara and Caleb, an Alabama couple had to flee their state to keep Tamara alive. They traveled 580 miles after her doctor gave a her sticky note.
At 10 weeks she was diagnosed with a partial molar pregnancy. There was no skull and the heart wasn't inside of the chest.
Zero chance of survival. Alabama did not care.
The longer she remained pregnant the sicker she would get, not to mention a chance of getting cancer.
Alabama did not care. Ohhh well states rights.
In a video, the couple shared their heartbreaking story.
Trump and his Republican cohorts don't care who they hurt or kill.
Trump is not a protector he is an abuser. #DemsUnited #AbortionIsHealthcare
