1. They parked a police car outside my house intimidating my wife.
2. They called her a terrorist.
3. Threatened to arrest her multiple times.
4. Didn’t grant her security clearance so she had to get monthly extensions on her visa.
And of course no coverage on Daily Mirror.
This is a dangerous trend. And this request to X was related to a story @sulorammohan wrote that was published. Why not send a right-of-reply to the paper? This is unprecedented. Not system change.
It is incumbent that those holding public office abide by the highest standards of integrity and professionalism that aspire public trust and confidence in government. Conduct that falls short of such standards must be dealt with swiftly and decisively. The indictment also comes at a time when allegations have surfaced into possible irregularities in the procurement of coal for power generation, a function that falls within the purview of Mr. Jayakody’ Ministry.

Sri Lanka’s one continued failure is taking accountability by people accountable. Whether it’s in government, private, or public listed companies, people who clearly know they are accountable tend to move on or defend themselves rather than resign. This further sets a precedent for others to follow similarly. Until we learn to take accountability at the highest level, we as a country will continue to struggle. #accountability #lka
Why do MPs pay ~ Rs.7,500+ in APIT (income tax) while others pay Rs.55,000+ for the same salary?
⭕️ MP Ramanathan Archchuna has publicly shared his Parliament salary slip for March 2026, stating that the public should be aware of the earnings received by Members of Parliament.
⭕️ According to the document shared by the MP, the gross monthly salary and allowances amounted to Rs. 415,169.93. After deductions totaling Rs. 19,308.71, the net salary credited to his account was Rs. 395,861.22.
⭕️ One of the clear differences comes from APIT. For a gross salary of Rs. 415,169.93, anyone working in the private or government sector would typically pay Rs. 55,000+ in taxes, but MPs pay only around Rs. 7,500+. The reason is that the government at the time has effectivitly creating a different tax structure for MPs.
So, how is taxable income calculated when it comes to MPs and higher-ranking government officials?
⭕️ The new 36% maximum APIT income tax system came into effect in January 2023, and MPs initially paid taxes on their income just like any other taxpayer.
⭕️ However, in the very next month (February 2023), the IRD introduced an amendment related to non-cash benefits. This was designed in a way that significantly favored MPs: under the amendment, only 25% of their vehicle, fuel, and communication allowances are considered taxable.
⭕️ As a result, MPs’ tax liability dropped from around Rs. 76,000 to about Rs. 17,000, while virtually nothing changed for regular taxpayers.
⭕️ With the 2025 revision of the tax code, particularly the elimination of the 12% tax bracket, the tax liability for MPs was further reduced to around Rs. 5,000 to Rs. 7,500, while others earning a similar income continue to pay over Rs. 55,000.
we have talked about this in the past. old post:

The #Cabinet spokesperson has finally admitted (indirectly) what we’ve been saying: the Govt has been overpricing fuel.
They’re still using inflated assumed barrel prices in the formula, then claiming small “subsidies” of Rs.20 on petrol & Rs.100 on diesel that aren’t based on real landed costs.
Partial admission is not enough. We demand full transparency: publish actual landed costs and the real formula every month.
Any genuine subsidy must be targeted to the vulnerable via cash transfers, not a universal blanket.
No more manipulation. Sri Lankans deserve honesty on fuel prices.

Trying to get the fuel pass QR… and this is what I keep getting 🤦♂️
“Registration Failed – A mismatch in the vehicle number, chassis number or the vehicle type is indicated.”
Entered everything exactly as per the documents, still no luck.
Is anyone else facing the same issue? Any workaround or solution would be really helpful.
At this rate, getting the QR feels harder than getting fuel itself 😅

I'm not so sure about this to be very honest.
"Affordable" means foreigners with dollars, euros, and pounds can live like kings here. We've seen what happens when a country becomes the "affordable retirement destination."
Bali. Rent skyrocketed. Locals priced out of their own neighborhoods.
Portugal. Lisbon became unlivable for young Portuguese.
I'm not against retirees choosing Sri Lanka. Welcome, genuinely.
But let's not celebrate "most affordable" like it's an achievement. The goal shouldn't be "cheapest place to retire."
The goal should be a Sri Lanka where our own people can afford to live well with genuine tourists visiting us for a genuine holiday.
I did a thing I'm quite proud of. I created a news curation, aggregation, and context-setting website - but truly truly trilingual.

Language disparity between English, Sinhala, and Tamil is so wide that some stories never hit more than one language.
