H.E. Amb Bankole Adeoye, #PAPS Commissioner, participating at the 7th African Members in the UN Security Council (A3 Plus) High-Level meeting under the theme “Consolidating African Agency and Strategic Influence in a Changing Global Order.” The meeting aimed at enhancing coordination and advancing African agenda in the @UN Security Council, including through implementation of the Oran Process. The meeting was chaired by Liberia with the participation of #DRC and #Somalia, as well as #Zimbabwe and #Trinidad and #Tobago, as the newly elected #A3 and the Plus Member. Zimbabwe and Trinidad and Tobago were congratulated for their elections and welcomed to the A3 Plus family.
The meeting underscored that #Africa's influence at the UN must extend beyond the Security Council. The A3 Members recommitted to work with the wider Africa Group to connect African priorities across the wider multilateral architecture, from peacebuilding and preventive diplomacy to sustainable development and institutional reform. Africa should not simply be the subject of global deliberations, but an agenda-setter, norm-shaper and indispensable partner in defining the future of multilateralism.

"The Secretary-General is right that resolution #UNSCR2719 was more than a financing instrument: it renewed the interpretation of Chapter VIII of the Charter and the commitment of Member States to share responsibility for international peace and security. We particularly welcome the recommendation that the Security Council act proactively, case by case, in authorising support for @_AfricanUnion-led peace support operations.
The task now is #implementation. Where support arrangements for mandated operations are in transition, the report's own warning applies with particular force: the abrupt or premature withdrawal of support risks undoing hard-won gains. Orderly and predictable successor arrangements must be found. #Peacebuilding is not only the path out of missions; invested early in prevention, it reduces the need for them, as Member States recognised by consensus in the Peacebuilding Architecture Review. Adapting peace operations to a changed world requires a more representative #UNSC, beginning with redress of the historical injustice against Africa."
- H.E. Amb. Mohamed F. Edrees, Permanent Observer of the @AfricanUnionUN, delivering a statement at the Informal Meeting of the General Assembly on the Report of the Secretary-General on the Review on the Future of all Forms of UN #PeaceOperations (A/80/798)
