Have you done your mid-year investment portfolio review? ๐
Hereโs mine:
I crossed the R5 million mark ๐๐
But made a few mistakes, e.g., let my emergency fund spring a leak
This is not just a highlight reel, itโs my most honest portfolio update yet ๐๐พ

I started taking investing seriously in high school
I havenโt stopped since
Every month I invest at least 20% of my income
At 22 I hit R100k. Iโm 23 now at R124k with no plan to slow down ๐
(and yeah, down 4% this month, it doesnโt matter in the long term)
Investing has changed my life ๐
SARS taking 41% of my salary is really heartbreaking. No seriously on top of high municipal charges, electricity, fuel, food prices, school fees , no ways.
Capital gains taxes make no sense & shouldn't exist
I invest my capital. I create the opportunity. I take the risk. I do the work. I take the chances. I accept the losses if things go wrong
So why should the government collect a slice when things go right?
They didnโt take the risk. They didnโt build the business. They just take

Just a mid-month update on my Top Stocks of 2026 as we came to the six month stage
It's still holding its own and outperforming my J201 & J202 benchmarks
+3.24% year-to-date
$JSEAFT Afrimat and $JSECPR Copper 360 my two weakest plays to date
$JSERBO Rainbow Chickens and $JSESBP Sabcap my top stocks
Overall, fairly happy seven of the ten are ahead of benchmark with a good six month yet to go some solid gains in much of the selection aside from the two dogs. Those two stocks shave -6.0% off my total gains

Something I read this morning as attributed to Prof. Christo Auret, Professor School of Economics and Finance at WITS... I though the chart was really interesting
"It is always worth stepping back to look at where the markets are over the long-term. It helps you to view current events within their historical context to obtain some perspective. Consider the following chart of the JSE Overall index going back to February 1985"
Had a good catch up call with $JSE CAA CA & Sales on FY2025 results and Q1 2026 indicative performance
Revenue in 2025 may have seen a modest 3% growth but profits rose 10% and HEPS 17% to 144 cents per share (a bit softer than past trends but still a respectable clip)
The PE is 10x (was 17x) and has de-rated as investors had fears on slower growth in its largest market Botswana which in H2 showed resilience for #CAA and growth in profit year-on-year and continues to show growth in all territories with hefty investment made in 2025 to increase systems, technology, logistics and people to counter expected on-going market growth
I foresee further expansion in East Africa and with the March acquisition of a stake in Sunpac, a big new consumer goods channel comes into the fold
I have owned and recommended #CAA since 545 cents saw it run to 1960 cents and unwind to 1350 cents and its now trading 1390 cents AND its still a growth stock I want and am happy to own
With another solid growth year ahead and the PE unwinding to @8x ... to this long-time follower and analyst it looks far too cheap
It may stay good value until June H1 results are indicated as the markets await an update on the consumer 'shake' due to higher inflationary costs on their spending habits due to higher fuel and increasing food inflationary costs
But #CAA distributes (higher fuel costs are not for their account) and merchandise a wide range of consumer foods, personal care goods and liquor (still growing) that will always be in demand

SARS takes a cut on the purchase of the stock (as described above) and then again on the sale of the stock.
Not only that, you are investing post tax money and then you get taxed again on any gains youโve made once you sell.
