As Daw Aung San Suu Kyi marks her 81st birthday today, my thoughts, prayers, and solidarity are with her, all political prisoners, freedom fighters, her son Kim Aris, and millions around the world who are calling for "proof of life", the release of all political prisoners, and freedom for Myanmar.
In honor of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi's 81st birthday and all freedom fighters, I have spent the past few weeks walking more than 81,000 steps, running 81 kilometers, and undertaking five days of fasting prayer. This fasting prayer was especially inspired by the Founding Fathers of the United States of America and President Abraham Lincoln, who called a nation to prayer, fasting, and humility before God during its darkest moments. I believe that, in Myanmar's darkest hour, fasting and prayer are needed because true freedom demands courage, sacrifice, perseverance, and faith.
This fasting prayer initiative will continue once a month until Myanmar is free and every political prisoner is released. We will not give up. We will not stop. We will not rest until freedom, justice, and federal democracy prevail.
On her 81st birthday, may Daw Aung San Suu Kyi be strengthened, supernaturally protected, and encouraged. May this year bring Myanmar closer to peace, freedom, and a federal democratic future.
