Keith David is legitimately one of the greatest actors of all time. Maybe you don’t immediately think of him in the same sphere as Daniel Day Lewis or Sydney Poitier or whotever, but he has been such a fundamental fabric of movies (and tv!) for decades.
Art is one thing, arthouse sophistication is another; auteur wars all over again: Hitchcock, Hawks, Sirk, Lubitsch aren't arthouse sophisticates, either, just (like Scorsese) some of the great artists of cinema, despite working in commercial systems and popular styles.
