‘ยูเอ็น’ เตือน ‘ดาต้าเซ็นเตอร์’ ภัยคุกคามทรัพยากรโลก ใช้ไฟ 3% ของโลก ใช้น้ำเท่าคน 1,300 ล้านคน กินพื้นที่มากกว่ากรุงเทพฯ 10 เท่า สร้างขยะอิเล็กทรอนิกส์มหาศาล

รายงานฉบับใหม่ จากสถาบันเพื่อน้ำ สิ่งแวดล้อม และสุขภาพแห่งมหาวิทยาลัยสหประชาชาติ (UNU-INWEH) เปิดเผยว่า “เอไอ” ไม่ใช่แค่ซอฟต์แวร์อย่างที่หลายคนเข้าใจเท่านั้น แต่มันยังมีโครงสร้างพื้นฐานอย่าง “ดาต้าเซ็นเตอร์” ที่ใช้ทรัพยากรมหาศาล หากไม่มีการบริหารจัดการที่มีประสิทธิภาพ การขยายตัวของเทคโนโลยีนี้อาจทำให้ทรัพยากรธรรมชาติของโลกตกอยู่ในสภาวะตึงตัวอย่างรุนแรงภายในปี 2030

ภายในปี 2030 ดาต้าเซ็นเตอร์ที่ใช้ขับเคลื่อนเอไอทั่วโลกจะใช้ไฟฟ้าสูงถึง 945 เทราวัตต์-ชั่วโมงต่อปี คิดเป็นสามเท่าของการใช้ไฟฟ้าต่อปีของประเทศปากีสถาน บังกลาเทศ และไนจีเรียรวมกัน ซึ่งเป็นกลุ่มประเทศที่มีประชากรรวมกันกว่า 650 ล้านคน หากเปรียบดาต้าเซ็นเตอร์เป็นประเทศหนึ่ง อุตสาหกรรมนี้อาจก้าวขึ้นมาเป็นผู้ใช้ไฟฟ้ารายใหญ่อันดับ 6 ของโลกภายในสิ้นทศวรรษนี้ โดยจะครองส่วนแบ่งถึง 3% ของการใช้ไฟฟ้าทั่วโลก

At Toba Aquarium in Japan, after closing time, two clever senior sea otters help their longtime keeper tidy up their toys. As a reward, he gives them ice cubes.

This heartwarming video shows Mei (around 20 years old) and Kira (around 16–17 years old) — currently Japan’s only captive sea otters — swimming around their pool to collect scattered enrichment items like colorful cones and toys. They diligently bring each one to the edge and hand it over to their dedicated keeper, affectionately known as “otter grandpa” by fans. In return, he rewards them with ice cubes, which the otters playfully bat, chase, and enjoy.

This isn’t random cute behavior — it’s a thoughtful example of positive reinforcement training and behavioral enrichment. Sea otters are highly intelligent marine mammals known in the wild for using tools (like rocks to crack open shellfish), solving problems, and forming strong social bonds. In captivity, keepers design activities like this to stimulate their minds, encourage natural foraging and dexterity skills, and keep them physically active — especially important for these elderly animals.

Toba Aquarium in Mie Prefecture has cared for Mei and Kira for years. With no new imports of sea otters into Japan since 2003 and breeding challenges, these two represent the last of their kind in Japanese facilities. The strong bond with staff is evident in the calm, cooperative way they participate. What looks like “tidying up” is actually a fun, rewarding game that builds trust and provides mental stimulation.

The clip has touched millions because it beautifully illustrates cross-species cooperation, patience, and care. In a fast-paced world, it’s a gentle reminder of intelligence in the animal kingdom, the value of positive relationships, and how simple joys (like playing with ice) can brighten the day.

A perfect dose of wonder and humanity — or should we say, “otter-manity.” 🦦❤️
