This local Ukrainian counteroffensive is proving very costly. Taking territory with a weak Russian presence has been a media victory but not a strategic one, as it has not succeeded in expelling Russian forces from the Haichur River or hindering logistics to Huliaipole. Artillery and drones have caused the loss of hundreds of Ukrainians in a week which, if the initial momentum continues, will cause problems on other fronts where troops & resources have been reduced.
