Subtle ways that your home is being secured:

1. Orientation: When the main door or windows are facing open areas, not some dark corner, it’s easier to spot strangers from inside the house.

@tylerswizardry @Oluwafe99427965 @Mochievous I see your point. The use of burglar proof bars is a well-known system of security in Nigerian homes but there are other ways to create a secure building without them. Here are some ways though it may be subtle:

8. Oh, and walkways shouldn’t end randomly. Dead ends can easily turn into hiding spots. It’s better when the layout is open and connected, so people can see who’s coming and going.

Architecture itself is and should be a response to social issues, security being one of them.

@Nubia_Republic @Mochievous Good architecture is not a one-way thing. Also, I can guarantee that there's no reason an individual family is using 3 plots of land just because of "forward architecture" especially in Lagos that's congested already. Good architecture is tailored to the resources available.
