@GreenGreenwich@ZackPolanski Hey @ZackPolanski I emailed you about the impending "DIGITAL PRISON" (this was the subject of the email) and how you stand with or against it. Could you find time to reply please. Or I can pm you on x if you can't find it?
Many thanks
The proposed “under 16s social media ban” is nothing of the sort.
In reality, it functions as an *adult* social media ban - unless you’re willing (and able) to produce "Digital Papers, Please."
Age-gating platforms may well be the most likely practical outcome of the policy as currently framed. And when the only workable enforcement mechanism appears to be compulsory age verification for *everyone*, the burden won't fall solely on under-16s. It will fall on everyone.
The probable mechanism is straightforward: platforms, facing liability, will require robust age checks across the board. That means ID uploads, facial age estimation, or third-party verification services - in effect, a “Papers, Please” system for ordinary online participation.
Perhaps alternative technical solutions will emerge. But based on how similar regulations have operated elsewhere, broad age verification is by far the most plausible path.
If the practical result is that adults must prove who they are before they can speak, post, or browse, then it’s not just a "ban" on under-16s.
It’s conditional access for everyone.
Do you trust this Govt - and any possible future Govt - with that power?
@JagexAsh any chance we can add a height option for when we make an account? Like making taller or shorter...
Or at least make @Odablock 's model accurate 😉
@BorisJohnson Today your arrested for tweets, tommorrow Digital ID implemented, day after cash gets phased out your accounts are linked to your ID & can be switched off & on, then the next manufactured pandemic happens & your vaccination status must be valid or you can't work or shop.
