Deep apologies in advance for tedium to follow. Due to series of comic boomer-style mishaps, have temporarily changed my username to something nonsensical. I've hated the apparent lofty credentialism of docstockk for a while, given that I only ever put "doc" in to rhyme with my surname. The current handle is the result of pressing a button too quickly, and is a placeholder til I think of something better/ stop being rate limited for frantically trying to change it again. I have also reclaimed the old user name @docstockk via a totally new account to stop malicious pretenders grabbing it - but it is defunct, don't follow.

Gutted about Rod Liddle, he was a great man. I take huge pride in having been regular contributor to his show, and I appreciated his support for my writing very much. I know full well what the online sisterhood think about this but I don't care in the slightest.

@BradfemlyWalsh He did, I used to be his MP too. But he never stopped apologising for that column once we had actually met. We found common ground and became friends. The persona of public figures rarely matches who they are in private...

Ultimately, Cambridge University will be a massive loser in this affair, deservedly so. It is a necessary condition of the place’s continuing glamour and prestige that it enforces rigorously objective academic standards. To be shown not to care about this, in such a public way, is an act of catastrophic institutional self-harm.
