ANI is not covering the anti-UGC protest at Ramlila Ground or related news.

It’s not that the protest is too small for ANI to cover because they report almost anything, even if it matters to no one.

Just announce you’re doing a hawan for the India vs New Zealand final and their reporter will reach your house immediately, as if the country’s future depends on that sacred footage.

Just a few days ago they even posted (and later quietly deleted, after criticism) an insensitive clip of their reporter interviewing the hearsay van driver who had come to take cricketer Rinku Singh’s father’s body from his home, as if that was needed.

Clearly, an intentional blackout.

He is Md Wasif.

He was arrested on 14 Jan for allegedly purchasing beef after police in Lucknow intercepted a vehicle carrying it to his office, following a tip-off from the Bajrang Dal.

Like any accused, he denied the charge, saying “phasaya gaya hai.” However, police noted that the OTP used to authenticate the beef delivery had been generated on Wasif’s own mobile phone.

But Wasif kept saying he was innocent and on his repeated requests, police visited his house and seized the CCTV footage. It revealed that at the time the OTP was generated, Wasif was inside the bathroom while his phone lay unattended.

It later emerged that his wife, Amina, was having an affair with a man named Amaan from Bhopal, whom she had met through insta. Using Wasif’s identity documents, Amaan booked an online porter to deliver beef to Wasif's office. The beef was transported from Bhopal, concealed in a cardboard box, and secretly loaded into the vehicle. To ensure quick police action, Amaan tipped off Bajrang Dal members using a fake identity, Rahul. The plan was to keep Wasif in jail so the two could spend more time together.

This was not the first attempt. Last year, nearly 20 kg of beef had also been planted in Wasif’s car. He was arrested then as well and spent some time in jail, but Wasif came out quickly that time, but his wife wanted him behind bars for longer.

Why do people find such creative ways to cheat and harass their spouses when they can simply divorce them and do whatever they want?

There is an ex-MLA of the BJP from UP, Vikram Singh, who lost the election in 2022 and was eyeing a ticket for 2027. He used to preach Hindutva, cow protection, and nationalism on Twitter.

People found out that, his adult daughters have Pakistani Muslim male friends with whom they hang out in Italy. They also post beef-eating stories on Instagram, are staunch haters of the BJP, have “Free Palestine” in their bios, and refer to Kashmir as “Indian-occupied Kashmir.”

After this exposure, the ex-MLA deactivated his Twitter account. I am not saying that a father is responsible for the ideology of his adult daughters, but when your family is this compromised, the least you can do is not preach Hindutva, nationalism, and cow protection to others. Instead retire from public life and quietly spend the rest of your life at home pondering whether you could have done better as a father.

Some of us were hoping that this govt would bring reforms to prevent the misuse of the SC/ST Atrocities Act. Lol, they have gone a hundred times harsher by bringing in the so-called UGC equity regulations.

It is the BJP equivalent of Congress’s communal violence bill. It's meant to prevent caste-based discrimination on university campuses, in which only SC, ST, OBCs, and women can be victims. If a reserved-category student calls a general-category student a casteist slur, it is not an offence. A general-category person can only and only be a culprit, never a victim.

The scope for misuse is obvious and dangerous. Personal grudges, relationship rejection, academic failure, everything can be weaponised. Proof is optional. False complaints carry no consequences. And even after due process, the complainant can still claim that they didn’t get justice because of their caste and turn out to be an even bigger victim.

The most baffling part is that universities in India have functioned for decades without this intrusive policing. With rare exceptions, students across castes study together, socialise freely, and coexist without friction. There was no mass demand, no nationwide student movement, no protests asking for this law. So why impose it? When something is largely working, reckless overregulation doesn’t fix problems; it creates new ones.

Why is your government doing this @narendramodi? Please take this back.

If a person gets into MBBS through reservation and, even after 5½ years of medical training, still can’t secure basic qualifying marks for PG, forcing PG cutoffs to be pushed down to minus 40, then reservation at the MBBS level was pointless. It didn’t empower anyone.

Until now, the minimum qualifying criterion for PG medical seats for SC, ST, and OBC candidates was the 40th percentile, about 235 marks out of 800.

As per an order of the Ministry of Health, this has been reduced to the 0th percentile, meaning even a score of –40 out of 800 is now eligible, subject to seat availability.

The one profession that directly deals with life and death, where competence should be sacred and non-negotiable,has been dragged down to this level. Perhaps this is the only country in the world where such a dangerous dilution of standards is not just tolerated, but actively encouraged.
