As a leader, be aware of the paths forged by leaders ahead of you, humble enough to walk in those same paths, and courageous enough to create new paths others were unable to walk or could not see.
@CoachMongero@JeffSchaefer2 by forcing me to evaluate everything I taught and come up with the proper words to fit with what needed to be done. Take your "butt down" example. I learned what I actually wanted was "chest forward, hips back." All of a sudden players got proper technique in less time.
@CoachMongero@JeffSchaefer2 What I've noticed over my years of coaching, and this honestly goes for any sport, we as coaches get away with saying things as instruction that aren't actually correct. We get away with it becauee most of the time we are coaching athletes, who through their natural talent can do
@CoachMongero@JeffSchaefer2 the sport, or any sport, by high by school. Those players were prone to do exactly as thry were told. Thats when I began to learn that the verbiage I had instilled in me from my playing days had the right intent, but the wrong words. Those rec players helped me be a better coach
@CoachMongero@JeffSchaefer2 what is being instructed even though the words don't actually match up with what the actual actions. This became apparent to me while coaching very young rec league players. Half of them didn't have an athletic bone in their body, and more than likely would not still be playing
Players: There's never been an easier time to be an absolute dirtbag in the game than right now.
Here are a few ways to stand out amongst the crowd that every player can do:
▪️Sprint on & off the field. 1st one on, 1st one off
▪️Run your best home to 1st time on every ball you hit
▪️Throw the ball with purpose when taking gbs in between innings
▪️Show your best pop times in between innings
▪️Stay up when you fail. Studs don't doubt
▪️Wear your uniform properly. Jersey always tucked in. Belt on. Hat on straight. The way the uni fits you matters.
▪️Win & lose with class. No poor sports & no shoving it into the opponents face when you win.
▪️Be a great teammate. A selfless one. Pick others up when they're down.
▪️Be a leader regardless of how your day is going. It's easy to lead when things are going your way. Lead when it's your hardest day & you'll gain respect from everyone.
Talent will get you in the door, but the intangibles will keep you there!
Sunday YOU will see why WE've been working harder than you. When WE hit the ball a little bit farther than YOU. When WE beat YOU to the bag. When WE throw more strikes than YOU. When WE make plays YOU hope to make in the Spring.
WE happened while YOU were sleeping! #cultureofWE
I did this multiple times this past Spring/Summer with my team. As already said, gotta get it far down 3rd and force the 3rd baseman to have to play it. Next, add in teaching the runner on 1st to be looking to get to 3rd on the bunt from the start.
Result: 1/3, same outs AGAIN
1ST & 3RD ONE OUT BUNT
IMO this was intended to be a bunt for a hit to 3B to score the runner from 3B. Because of its direction, it turned into more of a safety squeeze. Most safety squeezes with runners on 1B & 3B are directed to 1B. Option ‘B’ would be to make the 3B field the

@BMcCann17 Tournaments are not the way to develop the masses of youth baseball. For 90 percent of the potential players, it prices them out of playing at all and introduces them to bad play and bad tactics. If anything, they are a hindrance to the overwhelming majority of the game.
What's the chances of getting rid of all tournament baseball for ages 14u and below? Exceptions are for tournaments attached to leagues. Real question.
@BMcCann17 But guess what, the teams that play 3, which outnumber the teams that play 5 or 6, paid the same amount to enter that tournament. The return on investment is seriously bad for the vast majority of youth baseball teams. THAT is why I say a change is needed.
