I've been utilising the ISBAR framework while I've been on placement and realising how important and valuable it is 🙌
Its an excellent framework to use to ensure that all relevant information is clearly communicated between the multidisciplinary team 🗣️
✨VFSS✨
I was lucky enough to get the opportunity to observe a VFSS while on placement. It really made me realise the importance of instrumental assessment in better understanding a patient's swallow function.
Hopefully I get to see more throughout my career!
I recently attended a webinar about optimising rehabilitation goals for tracheotomy patients which focused on function and wellbeing. Thank you @AeronGinnelly for educating us about the role a speech pathologist plays in this context! #speechpathology#tracheostomy
@GinaMNunez It was interesting to see all of the health professionals involved. I didn't realise how many people were needed to get the job done. Such an interesting experience!
A few weeks ago, a few friends and I attended a new graduate event We got to hear about what other speechies experienced as new graduates and learnt some important tips! We also go to connect with many other students and speechies! 🙌
October is AAC Awareness month! When communicating with someone using AAC, remember to:
- give them time to respond
- look at the person
- don't interrupt
Can you think of anymore 🤔?

Today is Developmental Language Disorder Day #DLDday! Did you know that DLD affects 2 students in every class of 30? It's so important to spread awareness on DLD and help educate those around us! For more info visit https://t.co/twBdBe6zfF

I've got my first voice client tomorrow so I've been brushing up on my vocal hygiene tips. Some important ones are:
1. Drink lots of water (roughly 2.5-3L/day
2. Avoid throat clearing. Instead, sip water or try swallowing
3. If you experience reflux, make sure it is managed well.
This may include taking medication to manage the reflux, avoiding foods that promote reflux (tea, chocolate, caffeine, spicy foods), and leaving 3 hours before eating and going to bed.
What are some other strategies you think are important?
I recently completed my final child placement at Mudgee Community Health with @katharine_ft. Being a rural placement, I learnt so much about the difficulties faced by rural communities and the need for more allied health professionals in these areas.

@BronwynHemsley Students are given the opportunity to develop skills that are essential for when they start working as speech pathologists. Some of these skills include reflecting, time management and note taking. #SLP2Bchat
@BronwynHemsley Placement is a great opportunity for #slp2bs to experience what it is like to be a speech pathologist and apply all of the theory they have been learning in class #SLP2Bchat
